Rawns Posted March 26, 2013 Posted March 26, 2013 Has anyone got this setup working? I've been doing some internal testing here and so far have been unable to get the transfer between SIMS and Discover to work. I've tried all manor of things and even done a complete clean re-install of all aspects and no luck. It's not even like I can run the sync users, grant transfer rights, grant sync rights or create catalog commands as you can only specify a single SQL instance within the commands! Not a lot of use when SIMS is on a separate instance to Discover! Sometimes, Capita's idea of "supported" makes me laugh...
vikpaw Posted March 27, 2013 Posted March 27, 2013 discover is not support on 2012 yet right? doesn't the migration of sims from 2008 to 2012 require some hard coded, irreversible changes to the db / structure? if so, then discover must be expecting things in the old school format.
localzuk Posted March 27, 2013 Posted March 27, 2013 Hmm... This doesn't sound good. As this is what I was planning to do during Easter! If it doesn't work, it might force me to end up being on 2008 R2 for barely 6 months then.
zag Posted March 27, 2013 Posted March 27, 2013 I wouldn't mix and match those versions personally. Keep with SQL 2008, there is really no advantage to using the new one that I know of.

No, but Capita have said that SIMS on 2012 and Discover on 2008 "should" work, however I am finding this is not really the case!
superfletch Posted March 27, 2013 Posted March 27, 2013 From the Spring Release note: SIMS 2013 Spring Release This release sees the commencement of support for Windows 8 and Windows Server 2012. SQL2012 is supported for SIMS and FMS releases only. Discover, SLG and SOLUS3 will be supported on SQL2012 from the Sims 2013 Summer release. A Migration utility will be provided alongside the SIMS 2013 Summer release to assist with the migrations.
Rawns Posted March 27, 2013 Author Posted March 27, 2013 That's referring to when Discover will be supported. At the S/W SOLUS3 Technical Seminar, Jon Wood stated that you can still sync SIMS .net and Discover even if SIMS is on SQL2012 and Discover is on SIMS2008 (which are both supported).
superfletch Posted March 27, 2013 Posted March 27, 2013 That's referring to when Discover will be supported. I know, but a few of the posts since your OP had started to move the goalposts.
localzuk Posted March 27, 2013 Posted March 27, 2013 I know, but a few of the posts since your OP had started to move the goalposts. No-one has said anything different to the OP that I can see?
superfletch Posted March 27, 2013 Posted March 27, 2013 Capita's idea of "supported" makes me laugh... discover is not support on 2012 yet right? That's how I read it.
Rawns Posted March 27, 2013 Author Posted March 27, 2013 That's how I read it. Either @vikpaw did not read the title of my post correctly, or he was just generally asking if Discover was supported on SQL2012? I read it as a request of conformation that Discover is not supported on SQL2012...
vikpaw Posted March 27, 2013 Posted March 27, 2013 Just typing out loud as it were. Confirmation is what I intended.
