I have been tasked with getting together options to fulfill the following tasks:

 

Web caching, user authentication (via a captive portal for BYOD devices (which works via transparent proxying), and via integrated auth for windows machines), logging of web access against user, port forwarding (or publishing if you want to use Microsoft parlance), web filtering with regularly updated lists as well as local rules.

 

The solution should cover our 600 pupil, 100 staff school. 100Mbps internet connection (with potential future upgrade to 200Mbps if necessary). We have 300 devices currently, but this could change according to changes in the school's way of working, so potentially could end up being 600 devices in a couple of years.

 

A physical appliance is fine, VM is fine also - physical with VM backup is even more fine.

 

So, anyone care to provide me with quotes or get in touch?

 

We looked at Smoothwall, WatchGuard and Fortinet a few years ago, but needs changed and the project was scrapped at that point but our need has returned now (compounded with the EOL of TMG).
