freezing and automatic log off of thin client

Hi there,

 

We have set up several thin client PCs to connect to a new terminal server farm. To automatically connect to the farm, I have created a Remote Desktop Connection and dropped it into Startup on each thin client. Therefore when the thin client is booted up, it automatically connects to the Terminal server farm. However, if a user closes their remote sessions or logs off, it then takes them back to the thin client desktop.

 

My question is, 1.when the users are working then the session gets freeze and it will not allow us to work anymore, until we restart the thin client.

2. When the users are working the thin clients just automatically logs off and then returns to the thin client desktop.

 

Any pointers would be a great help!

I recommend a product called ThinKiosk (ThinKiosk: | AndrewMorgan.ie) you can then replace the Windows explorer with this and it will re-launch the RDP session when a user logs off.

 

If your connections are freezing, or shutting without any warning then that is likely an issue caused by a network problem, so investigate this.

my problem is as users are doing their work they are getting logged off and redirected to the login screen of thin client.

 

my question is that logging off should not happen.

The link I provided helps you control the thin client, and is a better more elegant solution then putting the RDP file into "Startup" on the menu.

 

So they are being forced to log off the actual thin client and not just the server, while they are working?

 

If they are idle when it happens then your thin clients could be being power setting on the thin client logging them off (or actually just going to the lock screen).

No when the users are actually working with their stuff then they are getting logged off, but not when they just keep the system idle(ya it actually logs off when they kept it in an idle state).

I just replied to your other post with tips on the logging off issue. I've got some bits on my blog on thin client using thin PC. I used have users log on from the Ctrl alt del screen, but have moved to a desktop shortcut in a restricted shell...no start menu, etc. See the link in my signature below

I wonder if your issue is to do with the server limiting the number of logons/ open sessions.

we have three servers and approx 200 users, so should we increase another server ?

Are most clients logged in when the problems happen?

yes all the clients
