BYOD / RADIUS settings on non domain Win 7 Laptops

just wondering how you guys tackle settings for RADIUS wireless on a non domain joined devices? In particular Windows 7? At the moment I have to do a bit of juggery pokery to get it working (incidently Windows 8 joinsa RADIUS Wireless setup no problem)

You just need to have a trusted cert from the DC's locally and provide the auth for windows 7 do you not?

 

Or the easier way around is allow anybody to connect into a walled garden and only then allow access via logging in through a spashpage.

The reason I asked is because we currently have a really stable and reliable 2008R2 RADIUS setup as the backend to our wireless. We use it to push clients into certain VLANs (of which the BYOD VLAN has an ACL to only allow connections / ports to specified servers).

 

I am in the process of setting up a 2012 RADIUS server - only for it to refuse access to all Windows 7 clients (yet allow Windows 8 without a problem, using the exact same wireless configuration, and exporting the settings from the working 2008R2 server / importing into the 2012 server).

 

Can't quite work out what's going on - will shortly post on TechNet forums I think.

Sorry about the delay in replying hope you got your issue sorted. We are still using Windows 2008r2 for Radius. Windows 8 connects seamlessly to it, Windows 7 I can connect but have to manually set the certs etc, not a huge prob but on glenda's advice will look into walled garden method etc :-)
