SimpleSi Posted February 28, 2013 Posted February 28, 2013 Phones 4U "might" be able to do me a deal on a new contract. I'm either going for the S3 or the Note 2 My only concern is - is the Note 2 TOO big. Who's got one and whats it like in practice (pocket wise/car mounted wise)? Simon
JJonas Posted February 28, 2013 Posted February 28, 2013 Wait till 14th March for the Galaxy S4 http://www.wired.co.uk/news/archive/2013-02/25/samsung-galaxy-s4
LosOjos Posted February 28, 2013 Posted February 28, 2013 I haven't tried the Note 2, but I own an S3. I like a big phone, and I must say the S3 is big enough. Much bigger, and I think it'd become an annoyance. I know that's not a lot of help as it's purely subjective! What I can say is the S3 is a cracking phone, came to it from a HTC Desire and have loved every minute of using it.
truebluesteve Posted February 28, 2013 Posted February 28, 2013 I have an S3 and its a great phone. I had an HTC Desire too as my first droid phone and I do miss HTC Sense, so I may take a look at the new HTC One X which is out any day soon. Then there is the S4 :-)
SimpleSi Posted February 28, 2013 Author Posted February 28, 2013 Wait till 14th March for the Galaxy S4 I don't wait for tomorrows any more as have less of them left in the bank compared to yesterdays Its the S3 or the Note 2 - and only the Note 2 if someone male says they are fine I know I'm being sexist here but females win if they use handbags and therefore have room for a Note - people who just carry wallets in pockets are disadvantaged on this front - maybe I just need a man-bag! Simon
LosOjos Posted February 28, 2013 Posted February 28, 2013 I know I'm being sexist here but females win if they use handbags and therefore have room for a Note - people who just carry wallets in pockets are disadvantaged on this front - maybe I just need a man-bag! If you don't already own and use a bag, you sure as hell don't want to start doing just to carry a phone around! As it happens, I almost always have a man nag on me to carry my camera equipment, which has got me thinking about a small tablet... but that's for another thread!
Domino Posted February 28, 2013 Posted February 28, 2013 I don't wait for tomorrows any more as have less of them left in the bank compared to yesterdays Its the S3 or the Note 2 - and only the Note 2 if someone male says they are fine I know I'm being sexist here but females win if they use handbags and therefore have room for a Note - people who just carry wallets in pockets are disadvantaged on this front - maybe I just need a man-bag! Simon There's two Note2 users in our office, and they both love it. The size is shocking at first, but after a week or two, you get so used to it that everyone else's phones feel like toys... The main benefit over the S3 is the 2GB of RAM over the S3s 1GB. The note 2 is beastly quick (not that the S3 is far behind) Personally, and as I'm using my phone for calls less and less, I'd go for the note 2 1
plexer Posted February 28, 2013 Posted February 28, 2013 I have the original Note and whilst everyone says "what the hell is that brick" for web services, video, writing it's great. I have it in an Otterbox Defender case which makes it even bigger so I'd say get the Note 2 Ben
Abaddon Posted February 28, 2013 Posted February 28, 2013 Note is great in both versions. I've used it since it came out - no issues with size. I use a Bluetooth earpiece for calls - no idea why people make jokes about the size of it for phone calls, why would you hold it to your head?
JJonas Posted February 28, 2013 Posted February 28, 2013 I don't wait for tomorrows any more as have less of them left in the bank compared to yesterdays Simon Its two weeks away but if you dont want to wait, make sure when you are talking to you mobile provider they are aware that you know there is a new phone in two weeks and you dont expect to be paying the top price for your contract. 1
SimpleSi Posted February 28, 2013 Author Posted February 28, 2013 why would you hold it to your head? em - cause you look just as much of a geek wearing a bluetooth headset as putting a large book to your ear I'm back on now for the Note - now I know you don't need a man-bag for it and @Domino says its OK cause he's cool (For a geek that is) Si 1
newpersn Posted February 28, 2013 Posted February 28, 2013 Got the note 2. Great phone to use. Great battery life. S3 getting old now. Be the s4 out soon I think.
mdench Posted February 28, 2013 Posted February 28, 2013 i have the note and if funds were available i would have bought the note2 already love it as a phone!
SimpleSi Posted March 1, 2013 Author Posted March 1, 2013 What are people currently paying for S3/Note2 per month -not including fantastic deals that you Lord Sugar wanabees have negoiated - just looking for the normal going rate £25/£30/£35/£40???
Abaddon Posted March 1, 2013 Posted March 1, 2013 em - cause you look just as much of a geek wearing a bluetooth headset as putting a large book to your ear Si Fair point!
fiza Posted March 1, 2013 Posted March 1, 2013 I purchased an S3 for my daughter from 3. £32 for 500 mins(I think), 5000 texts and according to the sales guy totally unlimited (no fair use clause) internet.

L3OUGH Posted March 1, 2013 Posted March 1, 2013 Just to put this out there, I have a Samsung Nexus, I didn't pay a penny for the phone and I pay £13.50 per month. Ha, top that. The Nexus is an AMAZING phone though.
LosOjos Posted March 1, 2013 Posted March 1, 2013 (edited) S3 (phone was £50), T-Mobile, £27.50 pcm, unlimited internet, texts and T-mobile calls, 2000 minutes for other calls EDIT: it's worth noting got the phone release week and have been with T-Mobile for years, so it's sort of a fine balance in that I got some discount on my plan (Full Monty, usually £36) but as it was a new phone still had to put up some cash for it. You could probably match my deal now without paying for the phone if you point out the S4 is just around the corner... Edited March 1, 2013 by LosOjos
SimpleSi Posted March 2, 2013 Author Posted March 2, 2013 Ended up costing me another 5 month than previous contract but they gave tons of dosh to buy out of old contract in exchange for old s2 and I now have a note 2 1
Arthur Posted March 2, 2013 Posted March 2, 2013 they gave tons of dosh to buy out of old contract Ended up costing me another 5 months than previous contract Some how I think they got the better deal since you have to stay with them for longer.
SimpleSi Posted March 4, 2013 Author Posted March 4, 2013 You can always tell a pessimist from an optimist Mobile phone economics defy logic and someone somewhere ALWAYS gets a better deal.: )
