Windows 7 Libraries / Media Player Issue

I work in a school environment and for security reasons we remove all the default Windows 7 libraries from Windows Explorer using the well documented Registry hacks.

 

I have just stumbled across an issue when the staff started attempting to rip music using Media Player.

 

When checking the rip options the path is empty and cannot be changed. I also attempted to create a new library from within WMP instead however it did nothing, no response at all.

 

As a result of these changes Windows Media Player now has very limited functionality.

 

Could someone give me some pointer to restoring these features or overriding the default settings of WMP?

 

I have tried various solutions to restore the library path, however most of them are meant to restore the Music library feature but not the library itself.

When you say "removed all libraries" do you mean you removed the Public locations or disabled Libraries completely?

I think removing the libraries completely is your problem. I can see why you'd want to remove the public locations (this is what we do using http://www.grimadmin.com/article.php/creating-modifying-windows-7-libraries) but disabling libraries completely is bound to create problems such as this. I have this problem after removing libraries.

 

I am in the midst of working on creating a default profile and reinstating libraries as solution to what you and I are experiencing.
