Satellite Broadband experiences good or bad?

Small indepenant preprep school and ADSL here is poor and unusable at the minute, when it's good 5mbps its fine but every so often like at the moment it's 0.3mbps. We are considering Satellite Broadband as a short/midterm solution until BT or other LLU providor invest in the local exchange and if anyone has any experiences with Satellite Broadband please share?

although thats refering to home the latency could be an issue.
