Recomend me a Laptop

Hi All,

I am after a decent laptop that I can use as my workstation. Ideally it would be dockable to save me time plugging cables in every time etc.

It will need to be up to the job of running VMware workstation so I can work on a couple of virtual machines at a time. Therefore it could do with at least 8GB RAM and a decent enough CPU (i5 or i7). What ever I get I would look at adding a SSD and replacing the HDD that comes with it if not already a SSD.

Weight and size - doesn't really matter, I am not adverse to a larger screen and therefore a heavier laptop.

Win 7/8 - I'll install windows 7 x64 onto what ever I get.

Touchscreen - not bothered to be honest.

 

Budget wise upto £1000.

 

Any good suggestions as to what you suggest would be greatly appreciated.

i5-3210m 2.5ghz [Turbo'd up to 3.10GHz]

6GB [i think mine is 8gb] RAM - upgradable to 16GB

Dedicated graphics [Maybe you need it... It's handy.]

Windows 8, but you should be able to downgrade it.

Comes with a HDD.

 

The one I got was a bit more expensive than that one, but I have MOAR GRAFIKZ[!!!] on mine, 2GB instead of 1GB, and a bit more RAM. I'm not sure how it'll perform with virtual machines but it's a good laptop.

 

RAM is cheap, so you could max it out. And I'm sure one of the suppliers here wouldn't be adverse to helping you out.
