Problem printing with Samsung CLP - 680ND

We have several Samsung CLP680ND printers. The latest one serving our Admin Office connected bybIP address. Recently the Bursar using a newish Dell running 64 bit Windows 7 has found that she is unable to print PDF and web based documents. They go to the printer which boots out of standby but then the printer goes offline and no printing comes out.

 

To get the printer going again it's necessary to cancel all documents then it will go online and print from MS Office with no problem.

 

Samsung support suggested replacing the driver installed from disk with the latest download and switching to non IE browser.

 

 

Did that and that resolved the web based printing issue. However, still have the same problem with PDFs. Any suggestions please fellow Edugeekers?

No one else experiencing this problem it seems? These printers weren't cheap, were great to set up even had the toner cartridges preinstalled, connected to the network and have a seemingly useful web based homepage - problems with that one if you move away from the default user settings it seems. However, the main problem remains this refusal to print some PDF files - which subsequently stall the machines. A right PITA and I'm now wishing we stuck with the HPs we had before.

Might not be linked, but we found an issue with some samsung firmware and gigabit switches. Sending data would crash the NIC.

 

Ended up forcing 100mbit on the switch port then flashed the firmware to the latest version.

 

Might be sending you on a wild goose chase...

We kinda had the same problem with the samsung ml3310 printers where if we sent a job with a specific driver installed the printer would come out if stand by but not do owt, so i have got the Samsung generic pcl driver 2 installed and working fine. This driver is not on the samsung site btw.

Have a look at this thread. http://www.edugeek.net/forums/hardware/114038-finally-solved-samsung-ml3310-printer-paper-cut.html. Trying that driver may solve the problem. I hope it does, its worth a try.
