[android] What have they done with 'plane mode' in Jelly Bean!!

I was just finishing off setting up my desktop on my new phone last night and was putting in place my final toggle widgets (wi-fi, bluetooth etc.) and got stuck on trying to get a plane mode (switch off everything bar display) widget that I knew I had. It had simply vanished. It turns out that Google have removed this feature for developers! You can still 'have' plane mode by going to Settings-Wireless and Networks-More-Aeroplane mode (convenient huh?) but cannot now get an app that will toggle this from your desktop (or any app for that matter).

Why on Earth do they think people don't want this?! Then I found this from the Google dev community. It annoys me when manufacturers break things for no valid reason.

If you have root, push a toggle to /system, problem solved.

 

GPS was the same thing.

Cyanogen gave me customisable toggles including airplane. Another reason to root and rom your phone.

It's a new Nexus 4 so I won't be rooting it just yet (warranty reasons etc). I do like the look of Cyanogen for the Nexus though. I had it on my Nexus One and it was far better than the stock OS.

Use supersu and you can unroot anytime you want, no PC needed.

 

Warranty is intact.

Drag 2 fingers down from the top of the screen and long press the aeroplane or long press the power button like @Gatt says

I get round this sort of thing by not moving with the times, not even got IceCream on my Xperia..

as others said long press on power works for nexus (7) 4.2.2

Rooting doesn't void your warranty.

 

I do like the look of Cyanogen for the Nexus though.

Paranoid Android is even nicer. Per app dpi/colour settings and the Pie menu are very useful.
