RHEL 6.4

Just a heads up that our servers decided a 6.4 update to RHEL is now available.

 

Interestingly this gives support for Samba4.

This is important because a RHEL subscription costs about £40 per year for educational domains and is *supported* by redhat - ie you mail them, they fix it.

For the uninitiated, Samba4 is a full Active directory domain controller that uses MS own protocols and MS client tools to run an active directory domain.

I've not used it yet - but my understanding is that it behaves exactly like a windows domain controller - you just add the admx files from windows and use the windows snap-in to manage it.

I've had Samba4 for a while, it's works just like it does on Windows for AD, GPO's wok fine. You have to administer Samba4 via your local machine with Admin tools.
