Please could someone explain to me the difference between these and also, in your opinion which is best for an establishment with a main site and 3 satellite sites?

You need to quantify your request,

 

Size , users , bandwidth, geography.

 

Etherenet Extension Services (old term now it is SHDS and was previously LES) is just a type of leased line.

Oh and anything more than two sites you want to be looking at MPLS or similar virtual networks.

Gerography is 1st site is 1 mile, 2nd is 2 miles and 3rd is 2.5 miles across the City Centre. Amount of users is about 250 per site. Only one internet gateway from main site. All users at all sites go through this to get on the internet.

You can consider wireless P2P somethign like Deliberant or Ubiquiti do solutions for ~150 a link and you don't have any cost on top.

 

Nano Station M5's work well.

 

You don't need perfect line of site but it will help .

 

There is a link planner somewher on Ubiquities website too.

 

 

Failing that a 100 on 100 4 node MPLS will probably be your best bet. otherwise you will be paying for 6 endpoints if you go for 3 Leased Lines.

Hi,

 

as Rob said an Ethernet Access Direct (EAD) circuit is a effectively a leased line. When a carrier installs a leased line they actually use EAD circuits that go back to the telephone exchange and then backhaul over BT's, Talk Talks or another LLU providers network.

 

If you're doing 3 to 4 sites then you can use a few different products.

 

1. EAD from one site to another or in a hub and spoke topology - Layer 1. you then have a leased line into one site which is the Internet connection

2. WES aggregator. This is another variation of a hub and spoke topology on a slightly different BT Openreach product. - Layer 1 - you then have a leased line into one site which is the Internet connection

3. MPLS network - Again you can use a hub and spoke design as such. All traffic from the head site would go via one link including the Internet traffic. This would cause that link to get busier. However it depends how much bandwidth you need. If its for only 250 people at each site then its probably not that much.
