To be fair, the guy was a member of the Hitler youth,which I will admit he might have had no choice over.....

Why mention it if you agree that he had no choice? "No smoke without fire" - is that it?

 

The pope is retiring and I think he is brave to do so as normally they do go on until they die in post. He is using his judgement (presumably given to him by said God) to realise that he is not equipped to cope with the modern world in a way that the Catholic Church needs to be

No not saying that, but for the head member of one of the largest organised religions in the world to have been brought up with such a twisted belief billing itself as "catholic" and "christian" surely must have had some impact on his entire life. We don't know if he held onto any of that prejudice he was brainwashed into, through no fault of his own. If the man believed this was his calling in the first place he would see it through to the end? perhaps something has happened that is making him question his faith or his calling. There is only one man who will ever know and that is Pope Benedict himself.

 

But there is a lot of speculation about senior cardinals such as himself, and their involvement in the child abuse cover-ups.

 

Anyway, im not much for religious things. Im for science, because in the words of Neil Degrasse Tyson "The good thing about science is that it's true whether or not you believe in it"
