Hello

We have new 378 boards and pens and are using the latest ActivInspire. The teachers are noticing that when they click on a new type of pen, there is a delay of several seconds before the change actually happens

They have only just moved from ActivPrimary and weren't too keen anyway, and this isn't helping

Any idea why this is happening and what can be done?

Hi witch,

The setting within ActivInspire which controls this, is, by default located in this folder:

C:\Users\*USERNAME*\AppData\Roaming\Promethean\ActivInspire

Which in turn is then linked to the profiles contained within (again by default):

C:\Users\*USERNAME*\Documents\Activ Software\ActivInspire\My Resources\My Profiles

If you have any redirection on yor network that is redirecting any of the above folder/ file paths, then this could be the cause of the delay.

As a test I would log on as a local admin when one of the machines is not connected to the network and see what happens.

I would suggest contact Promethean Support directly as well in order that they can assist you further but the above is certainly a good starting point.

Thank you

H witch,

You could use an admin.ini, which when placed into the installation location of ActivInspire, would move the above folders and paths to a folder of your choosing within the C:/

Example

Create a folder on the route of C:/ called "Inspire"

Give all users full, read, write, modify execute permission to the new "Inspire" folder.

Place the attached admin.ini (you will have to change the .zip to .ini)admin.zip into the same installation location of ActivInspire.exe. (Default: C:\Program Files\Activ Software\Inspire)

Then run Inspire.

Inspire will then use the information in the admin.ini and use the C:/Inspire folder as its location for programme settings and profile locations.

Inspire will then not need to access the network location to run, and could potentially reduce network traffic and load.

Give it a try and let me know how you get on :)

@phillyrovers

Tried your suggestion and the pen "stuttered" across the board and caused all sorts of issues - half the time it wouldnt write at all. The teacher was thankful when I reversed the change and now doesn't mind the delay half as much!

But I would like to find another solution if possible :)

Hi witch,

I would suggest that the users temp directories may also be being affected by some kind of access, or network behaviors.

Please ensure that the local user temp directory is stored locally on the machine and that users have full read write modify and execute access.

I would suggest logging this through Promethean support as well if you are still struggling as they will be able to take a closer look at the issues being seen.

Thank you
