tri_94 Posted August 23, 2018 Posted August 23, 2018 Hi there I've like to remove the following locations from save as on office 2016 Documents and Desktop. Can anyone tell me if they have done this and how? Thanks
clareq Posted August 23, 2018 Posted August 23, 2018 There's a user GPO for it I think - File Open/Save Dialogue - Restricted Browsing
tri_94 Posted August 23, 2018 Author Posted August 23, 2018 Hi there I've had a look at the already. Problem we have is the desktop is locked to students. and when they click on desktop or documents an error appears “This operation has been cancelled due to restrictions on this computer" hence why I want to disappear the shortcuts. Thanks
Arthur Posted August 23, 2018 Posted August 23, 2018 Problem we have is the desktop is locked to students and when they click on desktop or documents an error appears “This operation has been cancelled due to restrictions on this computer" hence why I want to disappear the shortcuts. I also redirect the desktop to a read-only location for everyone, but users see a different message to the one you are getting when they try to save there. In the dialog box shown below, if they click 'Yes' it automatically redirects them to the root of their Documents folder where they have write access. What permissions have you set on your desktop folder? These are the ones I use...
tri_94 Posted August 23, 2018 Author Posted August 23, 2018 Thanks for that. I've solved my problem using the following If you want to disable the Office Backstage view using a GPO: 1.Open the Group Policy Management Editor 2.Expand USER CONFIGURATION > PREFERENCES > WINDOWS SETTINGS > REGISTRY 3.Right click and select NEW 4.Set the HIVE to HKEY_CURRENT_USER 5.Set the PATH to SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Office\16.0\Common\General 6.Set the NAME to SkipOpenAndSaveAsPlace 7.Set the VALUE TYPE to REG_DWORD 8.Set the VALUE DATA to 1 (Decimal) 9.Click OK and close your Group Policy Management Editor 10.Go to your test PC and run GPUPDATE /FORCE (or reboot) Source: https://www.urtech.ca/2017/03/solved-script-and-gpo-to-disable-backstage-when-saving-in-office-2016/ Thanks
tri_94 Posted August 24, 2018 Author Posted August 24, 2018 Sorry just noticed this only working for opening and not saving. Any one any ideas how I can hide the documents and desktop shortcut from office Thanks
Jaan Posted March 5, 2020 Posted March 5, 2020 Thread zombie, I've also noticed an issue with this. we redirect desktops..... however, if the user clicks on Desktop it allows them to save to the local profiles desktop (even though redirection is enabled and working). Just need to remove the shortcuts as diabled above for both open and save. Did you manage to do this?
