Anyone got any idea as to why when i run a custom MMC that ive made as anyone but an admin it errors with 'this function is not supported by this system' ? The adminpack is installed everywhere, users do have access to use MMCs in the GPOs set & the delegation is in place for the MMCs access to AD. Any ideas?
jack0w Posted October 3, 2008 Posted October 3, 2008 I had this issue a while ago, and I believe it came down to file permissions on the MMC itself, after I moved the console to a different location it started working again.
Michael Posted October 3, 2008 Posted October 3, 2008 Are you using different versions of the MMC? Open it up and go to Help > About XP SP3 and 2003 SP2 use MMC 3.0, but XP SP2 uses MMC 2.0. It is recommended you upgrade to MMC 3.0.

How do you mean, location? If i run it off my home folder as me, admin, it works. If i do the same but with 'run as' and then a teacher user, it doesnt work? As above, it works for me on my machine, but then not as a staff member. So i dont think its a version issue?

That's exactly it! I had to give those permissions to get it to work as well. Previously I just had the console on ICT Teachers desktop (which is read only) and this worked fine for 2 years.... Until it stopped working one day! I moved it to another share on the network, gave more permissions and just put a shortcut to the console on the desktop and this worked. Strange stuff huh?
