Behaviour Management Systems - all views gratefully recieved

Hi

 

I have been asked by SLT to have a look at the behaviour systems out on the market. I am at a school hat has been trying to use PARS for about 18 months. A combination of poor implementation of data codes, lack of training and a very slow response time when logging errors has resorted in the school returning to a paper based system and abandoning the use of PARS!

 

My job is to evaluate the issues with PARS and look at any other systems out there to see what would be best to do the job for us. I'm interested in views on Go4Schools, IRIS, SIMS Behaviour and any others I don't yet know about!

Take a look at http://www.classcharts.com, we launched it with all staff at the start of the term and they love it. It's relatively simple to use and the company are open to suggestions on developing the product.

 

Our staff felt the Behaviour Management on SIMS was too clunky and it wasn't utilised as well as it should - we weren't getting informed of the low level behaviour incidents.

 

Class charts writes back into SIMS so you can run reports off as normal, we also use SLG so parents are able to see the behaviour and achievement incidents via their logon as normal.

I should also mention class charts allows staff to create seating plans for all lessons and the staff are also using these each lesson + incase of staff absence cover /agency staff are able to logon and see exactly where students should be sitting.

 

Theres a built in parent portal too, where if you don't use something like SLG you can provide parents with logon information to view student behaviour online.

You probably worked it out, but there was a typo in that URL, fixed now.

The system sounds good @Sylv3r , especially the seating plans, i wonder if @CAM ever found a solution, this might be good.

 

Emma, we used SIMS Behaviour for a long time, but it is clunky and prone to annoying the teachers. At my old school we used Sleuth which talked to SIMS in one direction at least from what i recall, but it wasn't very friendly.

 

Have you complained to TASC software about the service / training as i'm sure they would do what they can to make sure you get the most out of the system, or at least want to investigate why you're not getting the right support. ( @jenny_urey )

Many thanks @Sylv3r - I will take a look. @vikpaw - I have already made initial contact with @jenny_urey at TASC and we are arranging to meet. Just to clarify, I am not suggesting that the issues are all down to TASC - my reference to training and DB configuration was more about the in house training given to staff and database configuration issues are likely to be down to the way the behaviour management workflow has been designed. The logging of an issue on the system is slow, TASC (so I am told) think this is down our network - the jury is out on that one until I understand more from TASC. Thanks

Thanks for the update, hope you get it sorted one way or the other.

 

I had a play with classcharts it looks good for one off use and seating plans. It would depend how much it costs to sync to SIMS as to whether it's worth it. Discovered another knew tool called Clever too which sounds interesting, at least for the U.S. market.

I use classcharts.com myself but couldn't justify the school wide cost for synchronisation.

Sadly not. Couldn't find a solution I was able to do whilst being easy for teachers to use and resilient enough to withstand constant class changes.

This looks like it might do the trick @CAM, so long as you pay to sync it to SIMS. @NotSoFast - found an easy way to import photos or is it one at a time?

@vikpaw Unfortunately not - it was a pain but luckily there is some crossover in the groups I teach as I do two subjects.
