Start Menus for Staff

We have a fully redirected Start Menu for students - so they get all shortcuts regardless is application is installed or not - works fine and logons are quick.

 

Staff - we give them the normal Start Menu and add extra shortcuts via GPP which works well but is slow!

 

In a bid to speed up logon times for staff I'm thinking of giving staff a fully redirected Start Menu (similar to students) but with extra shortcuts for Sims, Smartboard Apps, etc.

 

How do other people deliver Start Menus to staff?

We give staff a redirected Start Menu with added shortcuts to SIMS etc. This way the teacher can guide the students and what is shown on the projector is what the pupils have on their computer.

I did the same

Redirected here for students and staff. Different Start Menus provided dependent on suite, so no dead links (though staff just get the one complete menu).

How do you make sure new shortcuts are added and old ones are removed from each machine?

I've been testing this, but my outstanding query is what to do when I want to change it, eg if a new program is installed.

Either a script at start up, looking for the exe, and copying the shortcut if it's found, or a GPP doing the same. The script can run at startup, so it shouldn't slow down logon.

Seems simple enough using GPP as would do it for PC and not user.

 

Would it be possible to have a look at your script please (cheeky way of asking for a copy )

I used a script at my last school, moved to GPP here. I don't have a copy of the script on me any more, but it a simple ifexist copy
