Photo ID cards

Good Morning,

 

I have been asked to look into purchasing a ID Card printing machine, so that I can personally just produce all of our staff ID cards for all members of staff and not have to use a outside source anymore.

 

Could I please ask for recommendations on what machines people are using, how much they cost and maintenance charges on said machines.

How many cards and how often? That'd determine the size of machine.

 

We have an old Magicard Tempo here. We do about 300 cards, on average, per year. They've since replaced that model. But when we got it, I think it was about £600. A ribbon that does 200 cards costs about £30 or so.

The main use of the machine is that we are transferring from a school to academy so every member of staff is going to need a new card, (around 150) then whenever we have new starters coming they will need new cards, and potentially miss placed or lost cards every so often

I have a Javelin J230i it has a hopper so you can just load it up with some cards and off it goes.

 

As well as the printer you may want to look into some software for it as well allthough most s/w seems simple and overpriced for what it is really we need one of our talented members to put together a web based tool utilizing a db backend and a pretty web frontend allowing for the import of graphics etc...

It really depends on how many and how often - if you are only going to print 20 cards every year go cheap and cheerful. If you are going to be printing 100+ every year definitely go for something a little more robust - HID Fargos:

Printer and Encoders

May cost a bit more but are very good bits of kit.

If you are possibly thinking of integrating RFID - for PC access or door access etc Definitly go for a HID device that can have the encoders bolted on later - HID is pretty much the biggest RFID manufacturer.

We have a Javelin 330i which has bashed out 2000 cards since the beginning of term. It works well but unsure of a total cost. We bought ours from ID CARD CENTRE who I would recommend. Very helpful with aftersales. We purchased the software from them also and it works well.
