Good Afternoon All, I have been asked to create a disaster recovery plan for the school regarding anything to do with IT, Downtime, Back-ups etc. Have anyone else made one of these? where do you start? Would anyone be willing to share theirs, i understand you would need to remove any personal details from the plan but it would be a big help :)Thanks in advance Edited by JJames

Nominate IT Services Lead and a deputy, provide contact details, including 'out of band' methods (e.g. personal mobile, personal email, home phone etc) State who else has access to the Disaster Recovery Pack

List the major services, and the support/account contact details.

Document where the password / licenses record / installation files are stored securely.

State how the system as a whole is backed up, including the offsite backup store.

List the physical hardware required to run a restore.

Include a dependency map for critical services. (the two that spring to mind are your email and the MIS). Usually these will depend upon having AD and suitable hosts for Exchange and SQL.

Ensure there is an up to date VLAN schedule (including subnet ranges, any ACLS, and the purpose of the vlan)

Ensure there is an up to date IP schedule for the servers

Sketch out a 'bare-metal' recovery process for the core infrastructure.

What hardware do you need to get a minimum viable service up and running? How will you get that hardware, how long will it take?

Sketch out a 'bare-metal' recovery process for the critical services.

Who is going to be using these services? Don't forget that printing is critical - but you don't need to recover the print server and associated infrastructure in the first few hour/days - a few networked/usb printers with critical admin staff and
slt
hooked up directly would be enough.

What is your contingency for internet and phones during a DR scenario?

Sketch out a 'bare-metal' recovery process for the important services.

Include basic checks to ensure integrity of recovered service.

Sketch out a 'bare-metal' recovery plan for the remaining services.

Include basic checks to ensure integrity of recovered service.

As you work through planning the recovery of each of your services you should reach out to your existing providers to get some statement of support/contact details guidance on lead times, and procedures around insurance claims.

Now you can calculate the time to recovery for say a SAN failure, the loss of a server room or the corruption of an individual service/server.

Document the time to recovery for critical servers from the complete loss of the server room. (put this at the top of the document)

Document recovery time for each of the services provided. (service - service dependency - recovery time) Record this in a table.

The total recovery time for a service is the time to source and install hardware+time to recovery all the dependencies the recovery time of the specific service.

You should then be able to present a matrix of recovery plans based on the severity of the disaster.

Dear all,

I am also looking for IT recovery plan or disaster recover plan document. Would it be possible someone to share their DR plans?

Many thanks,

MS
