I have a Samsung TV at home that for years has refused to retain its settings. I've tried all the "Shop Mode" fixes I can find through Google but none of them seems to work. For ages this has not really been a problem as the telly has just been a dumb screen in the lounge hooked up to a BT box. However, now I want to move it to another room where it will need to stand-alone.

It won't retain channels, volume, picture setting, nothing......

Has anybody got any bright ideas where to look next?

Could there be a cmos battery inside somewhere?

If not presumably a NVRAM chip that is dodgy. Unfortunately unless it's only got a few pins could be tricky to replace - surface mount soldering is not for the faint hearted. You could end up with no telly instead of a forgetful one.

Have you got into the service menu and done a factory reset ?

Mine was with the tv in standby pressing Mute 182 Power.

Well, after searching for the correct reset code I finally managed to get to the reset option, but even that is not resolving the problem. As soon as the TV switches back on it is exactly where it was before rather than going to the install menu. I guess there is something wrong with the EEPROM; off to the TV repair man I guess :(

You haven't given the model or age of the tv, but faulty capacitors could be giving you the eeprom trouble. I'd take the back off and have a look before contacting a tv repair man.

The eeprom can also be reset by jumpering two of it's pins.

Is your TV saying its in Shop Mode when you press the info button with the tv on ?

There's nothing other than input info showing when I press the info button but it definitely seems like shop mode as it returns to exactly the same volume every time (as well as HDMI input and no TV channels)

It's about 5 years or so old. It's a 26" LE26B450. If it costs more than £20 to fix I'll just get a cheapo digibox for it - it's only going in the bedroom.

Would you like to write a watertight case I can get past my Mrs?

I personally can't see the fix costing less than £20 if fixed by a professional, my local shop charges £50 just to look at them.

Take the back off, Samsungs are easy, have a look for anything obvious and/or try these two solutions from the Samsung website if you haven't already. It's for a different model, but worth a try.

My TV Does Not Retain My Settings (TV Keeps Returning To Default Settings)

"Dear Mrs Seb1780, Richer Sounds offer free lollipops, 5 year warranties and their staff are friendly and knowledgeable" Watertight enough for you ?
