Sometimes getting it right is sheer luck

Went to a classroom to look at some problems in a lesson. Child reports they can't log in. it comes up with the wrong login error. Check the obvious things ~ network cable. Yes it's in and the lights are on. Try to log in with our test pupil account.

no that doesn't work either.

wait a minute there's something wrong with typing the password in.

The 3 key doesn't work.

By sheer luck the child's and our test pupil account password both have a '3' in.

Lucky because if I'd have gotten logged in I would have insisted the pupil was typing their password in wrong!

Must admit I have had that issue and blamed the student for a dodgy keyboard and I did feel a bit bad at the end of it

If you were to be wrong, shout at the student regarding password.. would you later appoligise to the student? :-)

We've started to be a little more careful berating students with wrong passwords due to a spate of subtle keyboard rearrangements which look okay at first glance.
