The Idea:
Built into practically all late model computers there is a small chunk of the BIOS flash memory reserved for management information such as the brand, type and serial number of the product. This was originally called DMI (Desktop management Interface) but has now been renamed SMBIOS (System Management BIOS). This little chunk of memory is accessible by a number of means including WMI and hardware identification programs such as Everest. This little chunk of information is a fabulous
Well we made it to our 3rd birthday and what a ride it has been so far from our first months to just finish running out latest conference. So many people I could thank and if tried i would miss someone out so think best thing is to say a big thank you to everyone who has made this site from my fellow admins to the mods and to most important people you the membership who make this site.
The site has always had ethos that if a member has an idea then heck if we can do something to support that
Well, now the conf is all done and everyone is left happy and content it just remains for me to worry about just how to pay for it!
Don't worry, we will have enough (eventually!), but, if you didn't know, Fasthosts decided to take a years worth of hosting out of our bank with no warning, yes, it was due for renwal (I though we had another 2 months and was going to cancel anyway), but it was galling that they didn't send a reminder email, and that the invoice\receipts was automatically sent to m
...and i'm staying in despite just being paid, everyone else is busy and there's sod all on telly, have watched all the films I own at least once...how boring and sad is this? flatmate has even bogged off out for the evening, so i've been sitting on my own and now i'm rather bored. I'm reduced to watching mtv and the music channels on sky...nothing else has caught my interest.

The search facility on my Espresso server isn't working anymore. I have changed its ip address but nothing else. Anyone any ideas? I've looked at the search code and it seems to be Perl but I've no idea where the code is directing the search to - it doesn't seem to be ip referenced. Help please.
Yesterday at School we had a quiz on IT. Now I posted before about my teachers knowing nothing but yesterday I argued with my teacher. Why? Because in his quiz he said that SATA is a type of graphics card and that your BIOS is stored on your Hard Drive. He admitted he was wrong with the SATA question but with the BIOS he said that the BIOS does not boot automatically when you turn your PC on you have to press a button but of course when you turn your computer on the BIOS runs to set everything u
Feedback on performance is a critical part of a learning environment and assessment is one of the most important activities in education. It seems like lately a lot of educators have been trying to make quizzes in Moodle, as a part of their online learning courses for effective practices.
For those of you that don't know Moodle, it is the best one of free, open source course management system (CMS) designed using sound pedagogical principles, to help educators create effective online learnin
Hi This is an email I sent to some people who I thought could help...they couldn't.
I seem to have an ongoing problem with the 2 domains above, both of which I own.
It would appear that I have set up The Scan and Store Centre as a ‘sub domain’ of The Scan and Store Centre ; that apparently was my fault and so I apologies to all those IT literate people who would never make such an error, and have told me that this error is the root cause of all of my ongoing problems, as it is now impo
Just been asked if I still want to work at 'Lanway' a company in Burnley fixing laptops and Q1's and computers and stuff.

So, now that it is out, should I go and buy myself an Xbox 360 and GTAIV?
Or should I be my normal self and wait until it undoubtedly appears on PC? What do people think?
Damn you cold virus!!! I thought I had foiled it when my sore throat went away but now my nose is bearing the brunt.
Hopefully it is snotty because of dust or something... Maybe I should blow it...
Tuesdays are rubbish! (as is pretty much every week day) I've had to do stuff today!! Like replace mice, replace toners and switch on computers!! MAN!
Get home and do nothing!! (Well maybe tidy up a bit... it's getting a bit of a mess!).
Weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee..>! only 2 hours to go
So didn't get the job at BFC... gonna find out why later on today. Hopefully it will be something along the lines of there was someone with better experience than me. At least I got an interview though!
Not going to look for a job just yet untill we find out if we are moving or not... should find that out this week!
Just don't know what to do!

I've finally got my Tuxedo card topped up and have just went on a mini-shopping spree and bought myself a few 'new' games on the EA Games site.
How easy! All you do is choose what you want, enter your card details and voila, you can download the games! I like technology!!!
*Goes to play C&C TW: Kanes Wrath, Medal of Honour Airborne and SimCity Societies*
On the way to work this morning, couldn't change gear so had to pull over on the M61. Looks like I'll need a new clutch. Thank God for Green Flag cover, and a local garage that says it may be able to get it sorted by the end of play today. I've just recouped the annual GF costs in one incident!
I should have known that if I brought a second hand car with a towbar it may have been 'overworked' a bit.
Just booked some tickets for the crucible for saturday morning!
Watching John Higgins vs Ryan Day.
Excitement! I'll be in the 4th row, so you might see me! Yay!
Anyone ever been? what's it like?
So I went for an interview on Tuesday and I thought it went rather well. I got told I would find out about it either on tuesday or wednesday... only I haven't been told yet. After speaking with my Uncle, who's partner works at the place where I had the interview... and who's sister went for an interview... he said that no news is good news.... whatever that means?!
I really want this job! My work place would be this massive reception area with a big desk and the opposite wall is glass with a
Yay! Boycotting the canteen.... wonder how long that will last...
Got me a pasta pot and a couple of yoghurts.. hopefully it won't make my belly rumble in my interview at 3!
Bought myself a shiny suit for this interview... that is how much I want the job!
Weeeeeeeeeeeeee!!
So, I am growing my hair long and right now it is really pissing me off as it just is so messed up. It is curly at the back and all over the place lol. Also, when I wash it and wake up in the morning I have to spend ages taming it.
I intend to try and keep a daily run down of things I am up to, if nothing else to try and show that I do actually work for a living, but to also show the full range of what becoming manglement has done to me.
A quick break down of today.
1 - Mainly sorting out the demonstration Joomla site to show the Head and Business Manager tomorrow.
We had the firm that do our propaganda^Wpublicity materials (prospectus, letterheaded paper, etc) come in to look at a redisng of our website. It is ag
All the recent chatter about the various space missions, ion thrusters, potential for giant balls of metal to crash into the planet etc... has made me think. Why do countries such as thr USA, UK, Japan etc... all run individual space programs, and only occasionally collaborating (such as the international space station).
It is plainly obvious that full collaboration creates amazing advances so why don't we do it more often? And why don't we do it with other industries?
But then, that just
oooh interview on Tuesday for a 'Haven Administrator' which is a posh title for receptionist/secetary. Pays more than here so not fussed. Also would enable me to save lots of cash on not using petrol and get fit at the same time, because the job is at the football club, and that just happens to be where my gym is! Also in walking distance of new house... if we ever get to move!
A week or so ago I got a call from BT offering me their BT Value pack, which equates to getting the BT V-Box (A Phillips DIT9719 HD DVR, worth £200), an on demand pack (worth £6 a month) for free for 6 months and a pair of 200MB powerline network adapters.
The only issue was that I had to renew my BT Broadband subscription for another 18 months (and considering I'd only been with them for a couple of months, it only means I've extended by a couple of months).
The service offered by BT, it
