I am using Smart Notebook version 10.6.94.0 and windows XP Pro and have an issue with teachers switching users rather than completely logging out and the smart board service not running for the new user who logs on next. As teachers like to prepare their lessons prior to using the board, especially if another teacher is using the board before them, they often set up note book and then switch user. SmartTechs response has been to suggest users completely log out, thus allowing the new user complete access to the smart board service. Has anyone had the same problem and found a work around?

I was fooling around in user accounts, changed my computer name and also changed the "groups" I was then asked to Reboot which I did. Now I am asked for a password, and the password I had with the user name I had is no longer good! I have tried everything I can think off, I tried ophcrack and logmein, and everyother software out there, i keep getting password cant be found. I tried booting with the xp cd but it ask's for an admin password and the one I had doesnt work. H E L P!!!!!!

We've got a suite of 10 PCs with a pair of USB connected printers connected to the back of one of them. We also have another suite of 7 PCs that connect to these printer shares and a couple of offices. Before the summer I'm told it all worked fine but now many of the PCs don't get a printer connection on logging in. We add printer connections at login using Kixcript eg: CASE $room="DTO" ADDPRINTERCONNECTION("\\LOW-DTO-XP01\LOW-DTO-COLOUR") ADDPRINTERCONNECTION("\\LOW-MMS-PC10\LOW-MMS-BLACK") ADDPRINTERCONNECTION("\\LOW-MMS-PC10\LOW-MMS-COLOUR") SETDEFAULTPRINTER("\\LOW-DTO-XP01\LOW-DTO-COLOUR") Where the $case variable is a value extracted from the formatted PC name. Is there a limit with XP Pro to the number of PCs it can share a printer with? I've found that there is a limit of 10 connections but I'm not sure if that is just for file sharing. With nearly 20 PCs trying to share these printers I'm wondering if that is my problem. ChrisJ

We use MMC to lock down various aspects of our XP desktops - I'm hitting a wall with 'Software Restrictions' however. Students have figured out that if they download a fresh copy of Firefox to their desktop and select 'direct connection - no proxy' they can get around the firewall. Setting my proxy (pfSense) to transparent mode tamped down the problem but caused some other issues such as the inability to block secure sites. [what this means in real life is that students can get to https://www.facebook.com even if the domain is blocked]. So I need to prevent unauthorized executable files from running, possibly by means of a Software Restriction path rule in MMC. What I want to tell MMC is 'only allow a program to run if it is located in C:\Program Files\' or failing that 'don't let a program run if it is located in the user profile'. What is the path rule syntax I need to do this? So far I've only succeeded in blocking all programs from running. Also, we're using roaming profiles on a Samba server in case that makes any difference. thanks in advance folks!!

I have a mystery! I run a network with over 800 xp pc on a single domain. However one of my IT languge suites is doing something odd! As you know when you swtitch on/off and log/off a Xp pro machine you get a message saying "applying computer setting" or "running log off scripts" the is fine for all other machines excpet 25 in this room which display nothing but the default wallpaper! then the Ctr-ALt-Del box apperas or it switched off it dosent even say "windows is shutting down"! Appart from that they all work fine and i know my scripts are running cos the drives are mapped etc but how do i get these boxes to appear on these computers! I cant find anything on the web and ive dont know of any group policy setting for it. There are no local polices on the machines! They have no settings/policy differtent form the room next door which is fine! Someone please put me out of my misery! Apologies for my spelling too much Wii fit has made me tired ;-).

Hi All, After finally get RADIUS working (thanks to the guide here), I have a quick question regarding the authenication process, and it is this: Currently the computer does not authentic onto the wireless before the user logs on, meaning GPOs don't apply and logon scripts wont run ( I say wont, if the user hasn't logged onto the machine before it just complains the domain is not available, and they cant log in), it only connects to the wireless network AFTER the user logs on. Did I miss something in the guide? Is it a driver issue, I read somewhere about single-signon?!? The setup is as follows: Server 2003 R2 with the CA and IAS Installed, D-link Access Point (Testing AP, Production APs are Netgears) DEll Latitude D520 with a Dell Wireless 1390 WLAN mini-Card Thanks in advanced

Hi All, I am looking to setup a Windows XP professional as a DHCP server. The box has two network cards; one connected to the domain and one that I want to use as to provide addresses to a number of computers that are attached. Does anybody know of a way of configuring XP pro as a DHCP server, on a specific network card? The intention is for this to become a PXE boot server on a local network. Kind Regards T Noble
