Many thanks for your help, I will update my package with all the .exes and get the guys who user it to test it out in terms of functionality Thanks for the suggestion, to be honest this solution makes the 'official' capita solution look a bit pants. Do you incur additional lenience costs with using App-V this way?

See this sounds like my dream, I have gotten a package with SIMSManualSetup.exe & it seems to work without issue, do I actually need the rest of the installs? Also with the setup.log is this in SCCM or SIMS files? Many thanks for the help.

I totally agree, whilst I can see both sides. We are talking about highly technical people who don't pose any risk. Speaking from the point of view of LA IT, it is another piece of software & if it could fall inline in SCCM just like everything else, our lives would be much easier haha

I think you might have the wrong end of the stick, our situation is exactly as Jawloms said. Exactly, that's the same situation we are in only I am the LA IT, trying to make life as easy as possible for our SIMS guys. Whilst I appreciate you taking the time to comment & value previous posts on my threads; however this seems a bit unnecessarily rude. The situation I am in is like Jawloms has said & I am just LA IT trying to help get it sorted. Exactly, the situation is as you said absurd however I don't have the authorization to hand out Local Admin. As such I am just looking for the best solution possible. How was this all resolved in your situation?

But it probably is dark magic, it is Capita after all

Thanks for the reply. The issue is we are a LA and I am installing it for our SIMS team, I am not a SIMS guy and don't relay deal at all with SIMS (hence the lack of understanding). I have spread the word of SOLUS and distributed the PDF however setting up a SOLUS server from scratch would required support from other teams and that is something that isn't current possible. The SCCM package seems to deploy ok and we can update it each quarter to push out updates. Apologies for the naivety as I say I am not a SIMS guy, and to be honest would much rather just use SOLUS if I could.

Thanks for the reply, I do have access to MyAccount and have seen this PDF, I believe there is also a separate one for Local Authorities that I have passed around. However the current setup of SIMS is 100% manual (updates and installs) and getting a SOLUS3 server setup would require the assistance of other teams such as DBA and provisioning backups, this is not possible & so I was looking for an alternative way to get it working. Do you think the only way would be the SOULS route?

Hi Folks, I am currently trying to get SIMS to deploy through SCCM (looked at SOLUS3 but couldn't find much documentation and we already have SCCM). From this forum I have got the following line to run the installer: "Source\SIMSapplicationsetup.exe" /s {QuietMode} {NoServerApps} [sIMSDirectory]="C:\SIMS\" [sIMSDotNetDirectory]="C:\Program Files (x86)\SIMS\SIMS .net" It seems to work and all looks fine however through manual install we get a file at C:\SIMS & C:\Program Files (x86)\SIMS\SIMS .net however with the above line I only get the file in Program Files (x86) What are the files in C:\SIMS (I know some people map it to a share, not sure if this is a better approach) and are they needed? Any advice would be much appreciated.

Nice one, I will look into both options but seeing as I know & we currently have SCCM infrastructure in place it sounds like the better of the two. Many thanks for all your help it's much appreciated, hope the move to Sage goes well (gotta be better than Capita)

We have been manual setting all folders to allow R/W access to the "Authenticated users" group, do you think setting an AD group to have access is best? I can include the ICACLS stuff right in the .bat of .ps1 I create for deployment so that should work well, thanks. I see, thanks. We will definitely need that side of SIMS. I wonder in that case is the right approach is to use SOULS3 or SCCM?
-
Are you deploying with a bat file? I was trying the following with no luck "Source\SIMSinst.exe" /s {QuietMode} {NoServerApps} [sIMSDirectory]="C:\SIMS" [sIMSDotNetDirectory]="C:\Program Files (x86)\SIMS\SIMS .net" I found most of that info here so it may be a bit dated Noob question here but what is MIS? Do you run the simsperm.bat to fix that? & can it be done via SCCM package?
-
Gonna give it a go, thanks very much for your help. Just as a side note, did you consider SOLUS3 and prefer SCCM?
-
I think so, so by upadting the server files all your older clients will update themselves whenever they are next online?
-
Awesome, thank you so much. For new updates do you just supersede the old version in SCCM
-
Hmm, that's good. Have you got SIMS deploying via SCCM package?
-
Hi All, Can we still use the /s param to install sims as follows: Simsinst.exe /s {QuietMode} {NoServerApps} [sIMSDirectory]="s:\SIMS\" [sIMSDotNetDirectory]="C:\Program Files (x86)\SIMS\SIMS .net" I found most of this on dated posts Here Here Here Is this still something that is possible or is it too dated to still work?

[sims] SOLUS 3 - Pushing out clients to turned off machines.
Bigsby replied to Sam_Brown's topic in MIS Systems
God I wish I could, my role currently is only helpdesk but I am currently taking over SIMS installs, because no one else will & it's a mess. Manual installs and only having 1 staff member who could do that before I started. -

It is capita... From what I am reading online SOLUS 3 sounds like bad way to go however I don't know of anyone deploying SIMS from SCCM or eqivilent -

Did it ever turn out to be possible to export the SIMS MSI for SCCM deployment?
