It's happening on several computers throughout the school, even a couple of wired desktops. The share is setup exactly how you mentioned above. Offline files refuses to see that the file server is online.

Yes the files & programs are not available offline, this is how it is already configured and is working as intended. The trouble is that after connectivity is regained after any outage the drive's data does not reappear and offline files reports the whole file server as being offline.

I'm digging this post out from the past as I believe we might possibly be having a similar problem at our school. We run a Server 2003 with XP SP3 enviroment. Laptops with offline files enabled. On our main data server has a shared folder where all staff share resources and store shared data. This area does not sync but when connectivity is lost and then regained the drive is appearing as blank and offline files is still reporting the server as offline, dispite having a working connection to the network. I'm even able to ping the data server. Any thoughts would be much appreciated. Thanks!

Having a bit of trouble with USB memory stick and possibly all USB devices. We run a Windows Server 2003 (32 bit) Service Pack 2 enviroment with XP (32 bit) service pack 3 clients. An entire trolly of 15 laptops (HP 4510s) are not detecting USB memory sticks when connected. No sound is played and no driver is attempted to load. If I check in disk management there are no disks (except the install devices, HDD, CD etc...) This is also effecting several other desktops randomly about the school, including my own office PC! Any help or experience with a similar problem is appreciated. Thanks!

gonna bump this up just incase someone out there knows about this. The developers no long offer any support on this version.

I'm hoping that somewhere out there, perhaps over a rainbow, there is somebody who could throw me a line regarding Mastereye 5.1. This is happening in 2 classrooms that I am aware of, maybe more. The Demo does not work. All other functions are doing what they should be it's just the Demo. All clients are XP Pro SP 2 and both Master machines are also XP Pro SP 2. I know the demo was working before as I had seen it. One room is a new suite with brand new installations of Mastereye and the other is an older suite where the software has been working in the past. Is it possible to add switch to a Windows KB executable update to make it run passively, so it could be run as a start up script? (Pretend WSUS doesn't exist)

I imagen the drive has been pulled out while busy and it no longer has a partition table. Is there anyway to get the data off the drive? any clever little freeware gems out there? Or is all I can tell this poor year 11 student, only weeks before her coursework due dates that it is forever lost?

This was all very strange, had a rare opertunity where all staff were in a meeting after school and we gave the server a reboot, which has resolved the issue. I would like to know what caused it but I guess I never will. Thanks for your input Michael.

Sorry, Monday morning head on, everything is on auto, not duplex. The managed switches are HP procurves, but that is not a consistency throughout the school. We've replaced as much as possible but there are still 10/100 switches of multiple manufacturers in some areas.

Well of course 1gb is faster than 100mb, but this is different... It seems that connections to our main data server is very very slow for 100mb. Our network speed test program crashes and its taking 10+ minutes to copy a 20meg file. However if I plug the same workstation in to a 1gb switch the connection is fantastic, network speed test hits an average of 600mb and a 20meg file is instantly copied. This is what I've done: I've ruled out infrastructure as the problem for a few reason: Access to the other servers in the same rack do not present with the problem. I plugged an Asus mini book (its onboard network device is only 10/100) in to one of our gigabit switches and the problem presented, whereas desktops on the same switch (and same switch port) did not experience slowness to the main data server. I've checked all NIC settings on the server and accessed the managed switches and checked the ports are running duplex. - The data server is newly built and is running Server 2003 SP2. All workstations are XP SP2. Due to poor infrastucture there are a quite a few rooms in the school that only run at 100mb due to outdated switches so its a bit of a problem. Anyone ever come across something like this before?

We use PrimoPDF in the school and it has recently stopped working in 2 ICT suites. After investigating it seems the PrimoPDF printer has gone offline on every computer in these rooms, cause unknown at the moment. If I right click the printer in "Printers & Faxes" and select "Use Printer Online" from the menu it resolves the issue. I was wondering if there was some way of scripting this command, as going to each computer and doing this manually would take a considerable amount of time and also not knowing the cause this could very well happen again next week. Thanks for reading
