Hi - anyone know how to set iPlayer or Windows Media Player as the default player for live radio from the BBC's web site? We also have RealPlayer Enterprise installed on our system and this is kicking in as the default player but crashes when staff attempt to play live radio. If I uninstall RealPlayer the radio works fine so it's obviously not needed in this scenario. Uninstalling RealPlayer is not an option as it's required to access Clipbank via the LA. Thanks.

Hi. In one or two of my schools (primary) the authority are swapping out the existing Freedom2 box for Equiinet's CachePilot. Everything's working fine with the exception of my LogMeIn accounts - after they visit each school LogMeIn is no longer accessible. The roll out has only started in my schools this week so I've not had the opportunity to look into it. I'm new to CachePilot but I believe it's used extensively in schools. I'm visiting one of the schools affected later today. Any ideas on how to get LogMeIn working greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Hi - can anyone help with the 'you have a networked installation of SuccessMaker but are still being asked to insert CDs when you run a course' problem. The solution is on RM's web site but only available to support contract holders of which we are not one. Many thanks.

Small primary school considering Ruckus or Extricom as a wireless solution. We've organised quotes etc for the Extricom kit, any ideas who to approach for prices/survey etc for the Ruckus kit. Greater Manchester area. Many thanks.

For the last couple of days we've been testing PaperCut to control our printing. Everything's working fine except 'notifications', ie, the message users should recieve when they exceed their print quota or for any other rule you have introduced. Nothing happens, I just can't get it to work! And what method does the software use to deliver the message?! The FAQ's seems to suggest balloon tips and the manual, winpopup. I've enabled the Messanger service in Services to run at Start up and balloon tips are enabled on the workstations. Any pointers much appreciated.

Around once a week we would like to delete the temp files from a folder and its sub-folders on our server. Obviously we can do it manually through a Windows search, I wondered if it was possible with a batch file or vbs script. All the files are *.tmp so I imagine the script would have to accomdate wildcards. Many thanks.

Just occured to me. It's not an Intel processor is it? Is that the issue?

Hi I've just installed Leopard 10.5 on a eMac, main reason being they wanted to also run Windows on this machine. No problem with the upgrade, however according to page 65 of the little 'Welcome to Leopard' book you begin by "opening the Boot Camp Setup Assistant (in the Utilities folder in the Applications folder)". Well in my Utilities folder there is no Boot Camp Setup Assistant - lots of stuff such as Activity Monitor, AirPort Utility, Audio MIDI Setup, RAID Utility, Bluetooth File Exchange etc etc. Where is it? Many thanks.

Hi Is it possible to have different home pages for staff and students in CC3. I'm no expert so all I've tried is to logon to the RM Management Console > Internet & Email Settings > Specify the internet home page etc. As expected this changes the setting for all users. Cheers

Hi Any idea why a standalone laptop (Dell 505) should stop auto-playing CDs, DVDs etc all of a sudden. Even the 'What do you want Windows to do? box no longer appears?? All works fine if you right click and choose 'Play'. Associations are still there audio/WMP, DVD/PowerDVD. Odd.

Abacus Evolve Primary Maths Framework Software
markesmith replied to TechSupp's topic in Educational Software
No way round it - as mentioned, server intstall and then client bit manually at each workstation. I'd definitely recommend downloading and printing the administrator's guide and following that carefully. I installed it at my largest (3 form entry) primary, they bought every conceivable title and it was a very, very big job! Best of luck. -
Thanks but I tried that link (and several others) before posting and none worked or sent you to this page at Apple.... http://images.apple.com/support/not_found.html

Have I got this right - Bootcamp is now no longer available for download from Apple Even if you had a copy it would no longer work - it's now timed out? Bootcamp is now built into Leopard and this is the only way it can be used One of my schools bought 10 MacBooks (Tiger) at half-term certainly with the intention of them being able to dual boot. Any help/advice/clarification would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Any Acorn computer experts? I need help troubleshooting

Few things to try: Check the CDFS settings...click the middle button over the CD icon > Configure > Buffers > set to 256K and Drives is set to 1. The A7000 has 4Mb memory onboard and 1 72-pin EDO slot for additional memory. If this is populated (check at boot, top left of the screen for the amount of memory installed, anything more that 4MB and there's some additional EDO in there), remove it and see if ORT runs. Unfortunatly, you have to take the thing to bits to get at it, it's situated at the front of the motherboard under the floppy drive bay. If you get this far give the inside a clean as well. Clean and reseat the memory and see how it behaves. Failing that, go for it and do a hard reset - power on with the delete key held down until you see the RISC OS 3 splash screen. This can be a bit drastic on some Acorn models but not the A7000 series, most of the default settings you revert to are fine. But you may lose the CD icon (depends on the type of CD drive) so double click on !Boot which launches the configuration panel > Discs > Set CD ROM drives to 1 > Set > OK (ignore the warning message). If there's anything else that doesn't seem right let after the reset let me know. Best of luck. Cheers -
Older members may remember an excellent piece of software called PrimeSolver, published by Minerva in the mid-90s and available only on the equally excellent Acorn platform. It was a 2D-Mechnical Puzzle-Heath Robinson type of thing and was never ported to any other platforms. Does anyone know if a similar program exists for Windows? Many thanks.

Hi Server 2000; C: is a 4Gb NTFS partition which contain the following folders only (and their sizes) Document and Settings (26Mb) Program Files (325Mb) WINNT (1.06Gb) and a few bits 'n' bobs in the root of C which total less than 30k These are the actual 'Size on disc' sizes. One and a half gig'ish in total but free space is reported as only 529Mbs?? Anyone any ideas where the other 2Gb may be? Nothings hidden and I've defragged.

Hi The following works fine - we run it through GPO at logon: ParentFolder = "H:\" set objShell = CreateObject("Shell.Application") set objFolder = objShell.NameSpace(ParentFolder) objFolder.NewFolder "Year 1" to create folder 'Year 1' in the root of the users home area. What we would like to do is create a Year 1, Year 2, Year 3 etc folder in every home area so there is better file management as users move up the school. Other than using 6 scripts any ideas how to extend this script so it can add more than one folder? Many thanks

Thanks for the replies - half-term at the school this week so I try suggestions when next in. Cheers.

Printer Problem. Struggled with this one all morning! OKI C3300n installed a few weeks ago on the network. All works fine, the printer being installed to workstations via a VBS script. The problem is, when you log in as a student or teacher the default setting for print quality is always set to the highest which has resulted in a pretty alarming depletion of the 4 toners. Any changes made (which in this case means 600x600 with toner save on) are lost when the user logs out and back in again - back to the highest quality. Now, the way I've sorted this out in the past is to do the following: At each workstation log on to the domain as administrator Use DelProf to delete locally stored profiles (we're not using roaming profiles) Setup the printer as required Restart the workstation and log on as local administrator Copy domain administrator profile to Default User It's obviously something to do with permissions because when you log in as administrator the new settings are retained but I don't know what to change?? I made the teachers members of the Print Operators group but that didn't help. Any ideas?

Many thanks for the replies, I'll take a look at the options suggested and advise the school accordingly. Certainly like the look of PaperCut Quota. Cheers.

Hi One of my schools is considering print quota software. As I only work in primary schools it's not an area I am familiar with. I realise their's a lot to look at through a Google search but in the first instance I wondered what the members here were using and recommeded. Server 2003/XP Pro. Many thanks.

What does the panel think of........Smart Learning
markesmith posted a topic in Educational Software
Just taken over a large primary school which uses Smart Learning - http://www.smartlearning.co.uk/ - there are a number of issues with the running of the software which I won't list here for now. Not come across it before so would be very interested to hear comments from other users of this software....good/bad/pitfalls etc. Cheers. -
