also consider Ryzen, the new gens are really good. i3 is poor for a teacher, i'd supply a i5 minimum/ryzen 5/7. the dynabooks i've had in to repair are poor. i would also go business grade machines, elite/pro books, latitudes/thinkpads. built to last.

have you tried a different cable? i find some HP docks, and dell for that matter, can be 'fussy' or that simply the cable is old.
