I am posting this Thread in response to a previous thread that was posted over a decade ago now, hopefully we can solve any unanswered questions myself or any other users still have.

onto my question though, put bluntly, is it possible that the Clicking sound referred to in many cases across the web, is the sound of say, fan coil whine or fan resistance/ticking rather than switching onto battery (DC) mode constantly ?
I ask this because, the conclusion to the thread i previously referred to which can be found on this site, ends in a grim scenario where a users opinion (probably on power grid in India)
States that one should use voltage regulators with an APC ups to avoid malfunctions with your pcb board, or something of that nature...now, I own no such voltage regulators.
Back to my original question, I simply wanted to state that there are several sounds being made by such equipment, and i find it Extremely difficult to identify which noise people are referring to when reading over the scenario and user experience online.
With that being said... I experience a constant ticking noise on my own ups (A mercer ups controller within a custom built deep cycle battery enclosure)
The noise can be described as an occasional occurrence of a constant ticking noise, not at all that loud and often will continue for some time.
perhaps it can be describe further as a drawn out double tick noise, like: - "Tick-tick"-"Tick-tick"-"Tick-tick"-"Tick-tick", and so on.
The "ticking" noise itself can be described further too, as it somewhat resembles the sound made by the wind up of a child's toy car.
i also want to state that this sound doesn't resemble the sound of the ups clicking over to battery mode which i would describe as a much louder noise,more like a circuit breaker being thrown ;P
I hope my descriptions have at least been beneficial to some.
In conclusion i would like to ask if somebody could please assist with a diagnostic of the sound's root cause. Because quite frankly i think it would be wise to replace mercer ups box's fan and clean the cobwebs out, before playing with sensitivity, checking batteries & servicing.
