Found the root problem, rogue DNS entries that were conflicting with domain controllers, removed them now I'm able to access the sysvol consistently thus GPO's are applied 100% of logons. Thanks for all of your replies.

dcdiag /test:netlogons passes on both domain controllers, if that helps any?

We have 2 domain controllers, FRS went up and down all day yesterday but there is nothing in there for today. One frequent error is "The File Replication Service is no longer preventing the computer DC01 from becoming a domain controller. The system volume has been successfully initialized and the Netlogon service has been notified that the system volume is now ready to be shared as SYSVOL. Type "net share" to check for the SYSVOL share."

Just to explain abit more. We have about 3-4 students in each class that logon with no GPO loaded or what appears to be. They have the default Windows 7 wallpaper and full local admin rights. I have made a note of the user details and tested on another PC and the GPO will pull accross, this seems like a really weird problem we have never experienced before. The affected account seems completely random, I have taken one user account and logged in with it to 30 classroom computers and between 5 and 10 logons will not pull the GPO accross. Our Domain Controllers are pretty much just maintained as we don't like to mess about with em (Ruuning 2008 R2, fully updated) Something that might be related to the problem is when I type \\domain.local\ in run I get a logon box instead of explorer showing the domain controllers sysvol folder. Any details I enter in this box will not allow me access the sysvol (even the domain administrator account) Here is the troubleshooting we have done so far; Image the PC/PC's Check the user account in AD for membership Reboot Domain Controllers Reboot the core switch Restored a backup of the student GPO Checked the services on the servers Pretty much at a loss right now, any help is much appreciated.

Ok thanks for that. I suppose sharing the calendar with all useres via email is the only alternative?

Good morning gentlemen. I've had a look around but couldn't see anything along this subect so I was wondering if you can help me; I'm trying to force a shared calendar to appear on all users' outlook without having to send it via an email. Is this possible? Much appreciated, Edwardjr

I've had a look on the smart drivers settings and can't seem to find it. The configuration tab has a red x in the middle so im assuming that you need the board connected to acces those options.

That seems to make sense, smartboard software is installed with the notebook however I do have a test machine installed with windows 7 and the smart software in one of the IT rooms which doesn't have the security button on the logon screen. Thanks for the replies!

Afternoon ladies and gentlemen. I seem to be having a little problem and was wondering if any of you have an any experience in this matter. I have been testing a windows 7 image for some time now and have got everything working to how I would like apart from the logon screen. Currently the logon screen will display " Press CTRL + ATL + DELETE or use the Windows Secuirty Button to log on " I don't want the secuity button part to show but for some reason it does. This is on a fat client HP DX2420, fresh install of windows 7 professional and service pack 1. After some searching I found there is a windows feature that needs to be disabled via control panel called "tablet PC components" I have disabled that and rebooted but the message still shows at log on. I have also used the local policy to remove the CTRL + ALT + DELETE feature off then on again but still the message shows. Has anyone come across this before? Much appreciated.

Hit the nail on the head there. I don't mind setting outlook to open at logon but configuring it such a way that a member of staff cannot close it will be a tad excessive, too big brother. Read receipts are a good idea however I've seen quite a few staff blindly click on / close pop ups and alert boxes - especially when I'm using AB Tutor control and send the teacher who i'm helping a message, they will just close the box without reading... frustrating much...? I think I'll go back to SLT with this in mind, this isn't just something a quick IT fix will solve. Thanks for all your replies.

Yea, it's my thoughts extactly. Apparently there are quite a few members of staff not checking their emails frequently enough... The options presented to me are; Force outlook to stay open but can only be minimised or research a suitable instant messenger. Thanks for the reply!

Morning all, I have been asked by a member of our school's SLT to restrict staff from closing their outlook when they are logged on - staff are only to minimise outlook. Is this possible within XP & 7? Do you folks think this is abit big brother? Much appreciated.

Hi there, I have just set up a Server 2008 R2 box and added the print management role. I have added all of the printers that we have in the school which installed without a problem (64bit drivers) - I've then used the additional drivers tab on the printers and added the 32bit drivers for our HP3600's, Ricoh photocopiers etc.. however we I try this on a HP M3035 printer 2008 R2 doesn't seem to like it. I have re-downloaded the 32bit drivers, used HP's universal driver pack to no avail. Another thing I have tried is to logon a XP client and browse the printer share and try to install the drivers that way but still have the same result - "the specified location does not contain the driver HP Laserjet M3035 MFP PLC6 for the requested processor architecture" Has anyone encountered this or similar before? is there anything that I've missed? Any help is much appreciated --Edit-- Nevermind, i removed said printer and re-added it but with unchecking the "Query the printer and automatically select which driver to use"

yea we have a mac server in place and our domain name is xxx.local.

I've unticked the force home directory button and now I get the home drive and the sync has stopped which a nice. But I'm still stuck with these clients dropping from AD -"This domain is not responding" everytime I re-add the Active Directory and then reboot it will drop off... Any ideas?

Hi tomdawson, Na this is not what we wanted, other than that since trying this way the mac clients are dropping off the windows domain 15-20 mins from adding it or if a user restarts the mac client. Any ideas?

Thanks tomdawson, It seems to work pretty well however there are a few home sync errors that pop up when some students log on. For example :- "There is a problem syncing the file blabla.pdf" and the user has to click on next on all the files that do not sync. Is there anyway of avoiding this? Many thanks

Ah thanks for that, please excuse my ignorance but how does one create a script - is it just a simple case of using textedit or do I need to save it as a specific file?

Hi there I've had a look round on the mac section and couldn't find much on this so... We have just installed an xserve 10.6 server and 20 odd imacs running 10.6. OD & AD are working fine - student's & staff can logon and they have their home directory in the dock. Only problem so far is that when you try to save files from Office 2011 and Adobe CS4 you don't get the option to save to the home directory in the drop down save box the only options are - local directory ( which doesn't redirect & Mac HD ) Has anyone been in a silimar situation? I'm not too sharp on the mac stuff so any help is much appreciaited. Edward

Do your XP clients hang at "Applying your computer settings" when logging on? I'm in a similar situation as jgcracknell - new 2008 R2 domain controllers and very slow log on times. DNS seems to be running fine on the PDC and I've tried with a fresh new user in a empty OU with no logon scripts or GPO's.

Cool, this works now! "Applying your personal settings" section of the logon seems to be a bit slow now.
