  1. It might be a problem with network congestion. Check the bandwidth of the network to that room from any of the problem computers especially when the problem comes up again. It could be that the problem occurs occassionaly due to any reason ranging from a faulty return path, faulty patch cable or even a switch. All of these can lead to a slow network link. If you join a computer to a domain over a slow network its identification and authentication and therefore its performance on the network is very unpredictable. You might also want to try out a different network card with its most recent updated drivers on one of the problem PCs and watch out if when the problem occurs again it also affects this particular pc.

    MSI Error

I dont think its a permissions problem. This is the present situation. Authenticated users have read access to the share and system has full access. The objects to which the gpo is applied all have read and apply group policy permissions on the gpo.

    MSI Error

We are trying to deploy MSI applications via active directory. We have succesfully done this in the past but recently nothing seems to work anymore. I keep getting the following errors. 1. On running rsop from the server end we get the following error: Software Installation failed due to the error listed below. There is no software installation data object in the Active Directory. Additional information may have been logged. Review the Policy Events tab in the console or the application event log for events between 29/06/2006 12:01:54 and 29/06/2006 12:01:54 2. On the client side the events or errors indicated are : Event ID 1085: The Group Policy client-side extension Software Installation failed to execute. Please look for any errors reported earlier by that extension. Event ID 108: Failed to apply changes to software installation settings. Software changes could not be applied. A previous log entry with details should exist. The error was : There is no software installation data object in the Active Directory. I have deleted and recreated msi deployment policies, I have restarted the machine several times, I have also applied the policy "always wait for the network at computer startup and logon" still the problem is not yet resolved. would be grateful for some assistance.
  5. Thanks for all your responses. From previous tests I have encountered that the Wininstalle LE in the Windows server 2000 sometimes produces a corrupt MSI when used in a windows server 2003 environment with windows installer 3.1. Also I have tried using the install tailor with no success yet. It seems to capture the property values onto the wrong tables. I noticed this when I opend the database with the orca editor. Perhaps I am doing something wrong.......
  6. LE does not have the capability to create transforms.
  7. We need to be able to create and modify MSI's. Does any one know of any other reliable tool besides the Wininstall packager professional. It seems quite expensive.
