Student machines will definitely still be on W7, mainly due to time as there is only me. (My colleague was made redundant 2 years ago due to staff cuts). I'm hoping to have all the staff machines changed over by deadline date. As you say, nobody listens.

I'm looking into the same thing at the minute. Do you have BYOD wireless on a separate subnet to keep traffic isolated from the rest of your network in case of infection or malicious attacks.

WMI filters here as well. Does the job.

Agree with @XiJ. Desktops all the way. Lenovo have been reliable for me over the years.

BTLS Moving to Netsweeper from Lightspeed
ticktock replied to Joanne's topic in Internet Related/Filtering/Firewall
Students have been getting into lots of inappropriate sites at our school. Everything from games to weapons and forums. I'm having to block stuff as I go along despite assurances that this had all been "sorted". All stuff that was blocked by default on lightspeed. I wouldn't hold your breath for any kind of fix as they just ignore it and hope you will go away. Keep pushing for a solution and put a complaint in. The whole thing is an untested mess that has caused me grief for weeks. -
BTLS Moving to Netsweeper from Lightspeed

We found the other day that kids could access youtube by doing a google search in chrome. By clicking on the results it let you in even though BTLS were supposed to have blocked it. They said it was a known issue but hadn't bothered to tell anyone. -
I know, I was just trying to helpful. No need for the sarcasm.

Just a heads up for this months updates. If KB4512506 monthly rollup fails to install you will need to install KB4490628 (service stack update) and then it works. Thought it might save some time for someone.

Issues with everything at the minute. Radius, captive portal, wrong message when a site is blocked. Can't download from Google play. Utter mess. -
Just rolling out LTSC 2019, no problems at all.

I re-installed the agent which has fixed it. Got itself in a knot somehow. -

Just be moved to Netsweeper and getting this message on some machines: "wagent launched with inactive gui session" and the wagent is an exclamation mark on a yellow background. Just wondered if anyone had seen this before. -

That is shocking and a massive leap backwards. I was advised it wouldn't be an issue when I queried it with BTLS. Is it the same for windows? -

Hopefully, due to go live next week. You don't have access to the Radius config on the web interface so you will need to contact BTLS to ask if they will set it up for you at their end. I'll let you know how it goes. -

Yes, you will need to setup your policies. Download the documentation from BTLS. Quite a bit of work involved. -
There is a heck of a lot of confusing information as everyone has their own way of doing things. Go with whatever you feel most comfortable with as you have a small time slot to get things sorted. I found this link useful: http://www.edugeek.net/forums/o-s-deployment/201697-windows-10-1803-building-reference-image.html#post1721216

We need to vote with our feet. They might be saving money but the cost in time and support to schools probably cancels the savings out many times, only they don't have to carry the cost and inconvenience. It's a huge backward step messing about with pac files and certificates. It will be embarrassing if I have to change every BYOD and guest machine that needs connecting. I'm going to try the captive portal when we go live but even that seems to have performance issues. Well done BTLS. -
We are also upgrading to W10 in school shortly. I have 240gb ssds in some W7 machines for teachers which have been fine. Would you recommend 500gb ssds for W10 or will 240s be adequate.

Windows 10 1803 - Building a Reference Image

Does anyone know how to get rid of these icons via GPO. The documents and pictures icons specifically. Not too worried about the settings icon as it's disabled anyway. -
Ruckus - BYOD with Netsweeper and SchoolsBroadband
ticktock replied to tj2419's topic in Wireless Networks
Any help on this would be greatly appreciated. We are migrating to Netsweeper from Lightspeed with BTLS (a giant leap backwards IMHO). We use Radius (on Ruckus) with lightspeed and it works seamlessly. We were promised help with this from BTLS but they don't wan't to know and have no idea what I'm talking about. -

The link works on their PDF but the text on the link isn't correct. So if you manually type the link it doesn't work. -

I was wondering if anyone is using this yet. It's a new offering and I'm keen to seek opinions. SLT seem keen to go with it.

I'm looking at deploying W10 shortly and opinion seems split between LTSC and EDU. Could anyone point me the right direction. I am the only IT person in school and need something with minimal maintenance.
