I don't post too much on here, but one thing I'd suggest looking at is whether this IWB is broadcasting it's own wireless signal, many of them do for direct connection and can cause co-channel interference which may end up being your issue. What devices are experiencing Wi-Fi issues? If they're Windows devices run a netsh wlan show interfaces in cmd and look at the Signal Strength. It's quite possible it's not actually low signal causing your issues.
  2. Oh indeed. They do keep ontop of their security vulns though, so as with anything, keep your patches up to date and minimise it's exposure to the outside world where possible. It is like comparing apples and oranges cost wise however, if you have the budget for Mobotix I thoroughly recommend it, many schools however do not which is where both Hikvision & Dahua have made a name for themselves.
  3. I don't want this to come across as a blatant advertisement, however NDE (nenedata.com) are based in Northamptonshire and are installers of both Hikvision & Dahua. The above two manufacturers make some great quality cameras for a cracking price. Also very versatile and are bound to have something in their product range to suit your needs. Consider how you want to store your footage, I would usually recommend a dedicated device such as a NVR (Network Video Recorder). Don't forget to consult whoever is your main consultant for GDPR as this needs to be taken into account when planning and maintaining an installation.
  4. Yep, they are as far as I am aware. I don't think it's helping having a lot of stuff going back to a Synology NAS. What spec is this NAS, what sort of uplink has the NAS got? You should splt the CCTV onto a specific NVR, locate this in your main comms room. Split your Wi-Fi to a VLAN. Split your CCTV to a VLAN.
  5. Admittedly a little bit of a resurrection - I apologise. However, you should be fine providing the cabling was installed to a high quality. I'm assuming the cabling is Category 5e and not just Cat5. Providing that all pairs are punched down correctly at both ends and the cable is a good quality cable (not CCA, Copper-Clad Alliminium) you will be fine. As AButters mentioned, shielding does come in useful when PoE applications are considered, however, this is more beneficial at larger demands (take a look at 802.3bt for example) or when cables are bundled together in a comms room for example. I have witnessed in the past that the brown pair (the pair used for conventional 802.3af/at PoE) isn't punched down. This pre-dates Gigabit days where not as many pairs were required. Simply put, bad installers or bad cable will provide you with issues. However, good installers and a good cable will mean you have no issues. A TDR/Modtap would allow you to double check all pairs are punched down, but only the most expensive cable testers will ensure the cable can handle the PoE safely.
