  1. Quick update. Added my IP to the 'all clear' list in my Cisco ASA device and the download is working fine. So it's definitely a port issue. But what port? I unblocked: 3689, 5297, 5298 5353, 8000-8999 and 42000-42999 as suggested by the Apple site. Did I miss one?
  2. We filter with Sophos. I added all the sites suggested via Apple to our unfiltered list however, unless I am missing one. I also unblocked the ports Apple suggested. Still get the time out. I am going to give myself unfettered access through my firewall to see if I can narrow it down to my Cisco ASA device....or the Sophos device.
  3. Yes, the link worked fine....I'm in the process of downloading the ipsw for my wife now just to get her up and running. Strange that it wouldn't download through iTunes.
  4. A bunch of our boarding students seem to have trouble updating their iDevices to iOS5. I just tested my wife's iPad2 (she also teaches here) and sure enough, the connection seems to time out. I had no issue connecting from home. Is there a specific port that needs to opened that I am unaware of? I can get to the iTunes store fine however I did a quick test to see if I can download a regular (free) educational app and I was timed out there as well. Port 443 is unblocked. Any ideas?
  5. Anyone have any issues once they upgraded to Snow Leopard with their Moodle 1.9.5 installations? My Moodle pages just ceased to be. Files are all there. Path in Web Services still points to them, but I am getting a blank page in the browser. Checked in php.ini and other settings....php is uncommented and enabled.
  6. As long as it's on an intel based machine you should have no problem. We just upgraded our XServe from Leopard server to Snow Leopard Server with no problems....well, almost no problems. Be sure to google for incompatibilities....the biggest one I have found so far is that the version of PHP on Snow Leopard (5.3) is incompatible with the latest version of Moodle. Our upgrade cost was $249.00 (US)
  7. Hello fellow EduGeek users, Jesse here. Director of Technology for a small private school in West Virginia (350 students, 100 boarders). Mixed environment of PCs authenticating from AD. Just introduced two mobile labs of Macs into the pool and trying to get it to play well in the network. Varied success with help from the forums here as well as Apple who uses are school as a 'test' project. Dorms and main teaching building recently went wireless and we're looking to add a RADIUS server to better control logins. Looking forward to exchanging ideas/frustrations with the rest of you!
  8. I'm using version 3.4.6 Not using multicasting. And I was only restoring one laptop. It was very slow and as I mentioned it slowed down my entire network to a crawl. There's a small chance it was a fluke and there was another issue with the network, but as soon as I noticed global lag when surfing I disconnected the laptop and everything went back to normal.
  9. First off, thanks to Ross2k5 for an excellent post regarding NetRestore. I followed the instructions and now have two working solutions...one via network install and one using firewire from a master laptop to deploy images to other laptops. My conundrum...I switched to the computer to computer deployment due to my entire network slowing down to a crawl when trying to use NetBoot/NetRestore network install. Anyone have any similar experiences/solutions? I'm somewhat new to the arena of network management so I could be missing some fundamental and easy solution.
