Just a few notes post upgrade. Update the Binn location on SOLUS3: Browse to Environment – Targets – Server. For each server/product listed highlight it and click Edit: Update the Binn folder to the location for the new SQL Server installation. <add you new Binn location> Click Save. Install latest SQL 2019 Cumulative update: Download SQL Server® 2019 for Microsoft® Windows Latest Cumulative Update from Official Microsoft Download Center

@andy_b Thanks for your post. I thought as much based on this article below. Any thoughts on how data can be preserved beyond the 6 years? CMA closes investigation into ESS SIMS – WhichMIS? – Presenting a balanced view of the UK’s MIS landscape featuring news, reviews and expert commentary. Excerpt: "Undoubtedly, schools and MIS competitors will have their own views on this one, but, for now, the matter has been closed and any MIS changes from SIMS to an alternative provider will need to use the SIMS APIs and SIMS Report Generator to extract the school data."

Hello all, We will be migrating to Arbor shortly. Just wanted to get some advise from those who've already gone through the migration process and what they did to preserve data beyond 6 years (Guidance on data retention for schools in England for SIMS GroupCall Migrations – Arbor Help Centre). Have any of you opted for the .BAK migration (How to migrate from SIMS using a backup file – Arbor Help Centre ) which migrates data beyond 6 years limit as opposed to Groupcall Migration. @AlistairB1983 I noticed you've responded on the post below, so thought I would tag you in, if you are able to share you thoughts. Thank you all in advance.

@BOOT btw, when you did your 2016 - 2019 SQL upgrade on SIMS server, did you have to do any mop ups after the upgrade in regards SIMS or SQL for that matter?

Those of you who have already performed in-place upgrade from SQL 2016 to SQL 2019 (for SIMS), please share you experience in terms of any issues/remediations. Many thanks.

We are moving to Abor after Oct Half term. Re: redirect. I have changed the date to 1/12/2026 and also disabled it (shows as "not migrated"). But I've been told that despite changing the date/disabling during Stage 2. When Stage 3 starts, delayed date/disabling will be overwritten. So essentially they are forcing us to use Next Gen for Timetables, Attendance Registers and Conduct. Your school is moving to SIMS Next Gen

@webbobfc How did your in-place SQL 2016 to 2019 go? Any issues to report? The only issue with ESS or local Support guys doing the upgrade is that they spin up a new SQL instance and perform the migration, which means all the third party applications e.g. Biometric Cashless Catering would need reconfiguring (presumably at cost). Please share your experience if any of you have performed in-place upgrade.
