  1. At my old job we used two-way radios for basic communication between me and my manager. There was no confidential information discussed it was primarily used for location or to report to a particular location where other stuff could be discussed. It worked quite well, especially during fire-drills where the business manager and kitchen staff would also have one to co-ordinate their locations to ensure they were out of school (and also for when it was safe to come back in again)
  2. The 1.0 Ecoboost is in essence the 1.6 Focus apart from the power delivery is slightly better due to the turbo in it. (think there's a video Fifth gear did of a comparison between the 1.0 and the 1.6) the delivery can be slightly un usual if you're not used to it and sometimes does need an extra poke to tell it what you intend to do. The engine on the other hand I don't see being too unreliable as the BHP/Litre isn't astronomical it's slightly more than some cars and feels smoother than a lot I have driven. I have heard of a 1.0 Ecoboost floating around the Nurburgring running just over 200BHP which if you're bothered about engine life may be a lot less than was intended but still impressive. For me though I don't see me having the car into the 100,000's of miles as I tend to change cars regularly. (this one will last 4-5 years, if that). I do say to anybody though to have a drive in one, as you'll be surprised by the power it actually has for such a small engine. EDIT: oh and like most turbo-charged engines, if you poke it with a stick you'll see your MPG just fall off.
  3. As long as the iPhone is unlocked before you plug it in then you should be fine with just a USB and the DCIM folder. You'll know whether or not it is unlocked (obviously by looking at it) but also the DCIM folder will be completely empty. Once its been unlocked with the passkey the DCIM folder will populate with all the images, videos etc that are stored on the phone. To answer the question though, if it is to do with pictures of staff or others in school its better to protect yourself by getting them to delete it (may want to make sure that they are deleting it though as even though they press delete the picture will move into a deleted folder (or is at least the case on apple products) which can then be restored. You have to delete it and delete it from the delete folder (if that makes sense). If the student is co-operating in terms of bullying which I believe comes under safe guarding and they give you permission then I think legally you are fine to COPY the picture as evidence against the pupils. I would never delete or remove the picture from their device though, just use a copy of it as they have given you consent.
  4. One of the schools I manage uses Concrete5 while the other uses WordPress. I don't maintain the websites, that is done from TA's but Concrete5 seems to be easier to develop compared to WordPress (or maybe the TA's abilities differ incredibly differently) I've seen the workings of Concrete5 though and I'd recommend that.
  5. Thanks for all these comments, although most people are saying cisco is more difficult, it seems more profitable for future careers and from some of the preview searches I've done it seems more interesting to learn than Microsoft.
  6. If I had to say any I'd say networking. I do desktop/server support basics already and although I can do it, it doesn't excite me to be doing it.
  7. Hi all, I've recently been in the middle of deciding whether IT is really the career for me (as I'm at the very beginning of my career), but have finally decided it's where I want to be as all my college qualifications are in IT and have worked in IT for the past couple of years. My question is that I want to start some qualifications, I know the basics of networking/servers etc as I already work as a techy within a school, but I think qualifications are the best route as I've already seen that schools are very limited. For a broad IT knowledge in any business which qualification would be best? Cisco or Microsoft (to start with obviously, I could eventually do them all) Cisco seems the best option as its heavily network related which I like but for personal budget the courses are very expensive. I've seen uDemy the website for a CCENT course but I didn't know whether it was a reputable source as the whole CCENT course is £22 which compared to all the other websites is ridiculously cheap..
  8. It wasn't anything to do with the printing credit system Impero uses was it (we have it disabled here) but it sounded to me as if it was counting each page it printed. I see no other reason why impero would add True to each page
  9. I've seen this document before, but the problem is that it wont hard reset at all, it doesn't show any signs of life apart from getting warm when charging. I'm making a last ditch effort today to try and resurrect the iPads anyway I can. If I can't do it today then they'll be sent off for repair or replaced (up to the finance department on that)
  10. We have two Ricoh MFP's which is used by all staff for printing off everything that is needed for the lessons. Not had any problems with them yet and especially driver wise I've not had an issue like I sometimes get with some other printers.
  11. To be honest, I have no idea they all use the same types which could well be iPhone chargers but as they were set up way before I arrived, I have no idea if they are or not (and where the iPad ones are if they are using iPhone ones). I'll stick the dead one on charge tomorrow and charge it over the weekend, even if it trickles should be long enough to somehow power it on.
  12. I don't really know what you mean by the "big one". We have class ipads which are stored in 3 charging units which work fine but it is the teachers ipad minis which have cases and I doubt are kept anywhere to put pressure on the button. As far as I'm aware all the teachers use AC wall chargers (wall plugs with a usb to lightning connector plugged in) apparently this was the ones given to them. I have a spare ipad mini that is broke, i'll try and charge that tomorrow all day (roughly about 8 hours until I leave and see if that does anything for it. If it does I have a fix for the other one, i'll also periodically try hard resetting it after a couple hours if charges. Thanks for the advice. If non of this works, I'll just send it to be repaired but its better to try and fix it for free
  13. Thanks for the quick reply. The advice was for an older iPad but the ones we have here are iPad 4th generation and iPad mini (think its the Mini 2) the problem is only happening with the mini's and seems weird that the battery would suddenly just fail especially not being anywhere near dead. I'd try and fix it myself but I think the newer ones aren't held in the same as the tutorial (think they are held in my adhesives instead, plus being a company item it is better to get it fixed by someone who has done it before. Thanks though, I thought I'd just check here before I started sending it to get repaired.
  14. Hi all, Don't know whether this is the right place for iPad related stuff, if it isn't feel free to move it to the correct place. The problem I am having is that (I'm new to the school I work at) and when I arrived at the start of this year there was an iPad in the ICT tray with no explanation on it. I charged it for a day as I thought a dead battery was at fault and I know how bad they are to get a charge from completely dead, this did nothing. Not even hard resetting it does anything it is completely unresponsive (it will charge and get warm but a PC won't detect its there) NOW I thought this was just a one off case but yesterday another colleague said her iPad just went off on her at 60-70% charged (could be less they tend to lie or forget) and now this iPad is showing all the same symptoms and being completely unresponsive I've tried all the regular fixes I've heard on, either tapping it on the back (as I know this fixes the same issue on iPhones due to some sensor. I just thought I'd ask on here before I give up and get it replaced/repaired at a cost.
