  1. Saw this on HotUKDeals - it's a bundle of a 5900x and an ASUS PRIME B550M-K motherboard. It's not the most feature-rich motherboard, but will support the 5900x and doesn't include the problematic Intel i225 ethernet chip.   2. There are a lot of great options out there, using both B550 and X570 chipsets, but what you choose is really down to your budget & how much expansion you require. B550 boards are often cheaper than X570 boards, but the X570 chipset has more PCIe lanes. In real world terms, the extra lanes normally mean that the X570 boards have more available USB 3.2 ports, while some also have more M.2 NVMe slots. I don't have a need for the extra PCIe lanes, so I use an ASUS B550-A Gaming motherboard in my system. I wouldn't recommend you buy this however, since it's Intel i225 ethernet port is affected by a hardware bug that causes dropouts. (This bug isn't specific to my motherboard, it affects any motherboard that uses the Intel i225 chip). I worked around the issue by using a spare PCIe ethernet card, but I'd recommend you buy a motherboard that includes a different ethernet chip instead. The MSI MAG B550 Tomahawk is a motherboard that seems to be well reviewed and doesn't use the Intel i225 chip (it uses a Realtek 2.5Gb ethernet chip instead). Gamers Nexus has some recommendations for good B550 and X570 boards on their channel (but they don't mention the Intel i225 issue, so just be sure to confirm whichever board you buy doesn't include it!):
  3. AMD's Ryzen 5000 series CPUs would give you way better performance in most games compared to Intel's CPUs. Intel has narrowed the gap slightly with 11th Gen, but even the 5600x is ahead of the 11700k, while drawing much less power in the process. Intel is still using a 14nm process (the same as your current 6700k), all they've been doing in the last 4 years is adding more cores and pumping up the clockspeed (causing the higher power consumption). I myself use a 5950x (16 core, 32 thread) with a RTX 3070 and it flies! Most of the time I'm at less than 50% utilisation, but some games (BeamNG drive is one example) can make more use of it. Under full load, the CPU can use around 180 watts but this is less than the 10900k (250 watts) [source]. It seems that the 11700k isn't much better.. Here are some benchmark results which may help you decide: Either way you go, you'd probably want to buy newer RAM. Your current DDR4 RAM would work with Z490/Z590 (Intel 10th/11th Gen) or B550/X570 (Ryzen 3000 & 5000) motherboards but you'd be leaving performance on the table (especially with AMD, Ryzen likes fast RAM - 3200MHz or faster is recommended)
