  2. My main client OS is Windows 10 Education, however I've seen the same thing happen on a Windows 7 x64 machine too. What you're describing is exactly what I'm seeing too. Speaking to one of our other test users, they said it changed within the last two weeks for them too.
  3. This might sound daft, but has something changed with Office365 in the last few weeks? We haven't fully rolled out O365 yet and only have a few users added (myself included). Before I went on holiday there were three items under Open within Word and Excel (2013 and 2016). OneDrive - Personal OneDrive - SchoolName Sites - SchoolName Now though I only see... OneDrive - Personal Sites - SchoolName If I want to open a document from OneDrive for Business I have to do it from the web (because I haven't got a library sync setup) were before I could do it through Word/Excel open dialogs. I was working on documentation for our staff so we could start using it when they return in September. That's no longer relevant Is the intention that you have a library sync setup and documents are opened via this? If so that'll be a headache for Staff who roam between machines (not to mention Students...). The Open dialog version would have worked for our purposes. I've tried this on multiple machines and with both 2013 and 2016 as well as other users. All scenarios are different now compared to our initial testing and documentation. If there was a change, is it documented anywhere I read?
  4. As examination season has started our Teachers have begun making requests to have Scoris Assessor installed on their school laptops. Installation is fine, it's only a small application. However the software only seems to run if the user is an Administrator. Obviously we do not want to start making Staff local Administrator of their machines, nor do we want to disable UAC (all other software works perfectly!!). I've contacted RM who make the software only to be told that the issue I'm having is unique to me and local to our workstation. Has anyone had any experience with this application?
  5. You could also use a WMI filter if there is something similar about the machines. There is a example on how to do this in the Windows 7 FAQ thread.
  6. I have done this in the past using PSExec to launch CMD.exe remotely on the machine. From there you can then read the USB stick (providing you know the drive letter, which isn't hard to guess usually).
  7. We've recently started playing with mandatory Profiles in a effort to reduce the number of calls we get relating to corrupted profiles or profile issues. The mandatory profile works fine. We've redirected AppData in GPO too. During log in, everything works fine, no errors. AppData is created in the network location as expected. If I pin a item to the Taskbar or Start Menu I can see the Shortcut is created in the correct folder in the redirected AppData. If I log off then log back in the pinned item isn't reapplied. The shortcut is still in the redirected AppData, but it isn't applied by the OS. Also, default pinned items like Windows Media Player, IE and Windows Explorer get duplicated. Is there something else I need to do to make this work?
  8. We've only just started using AppLocker and have discovered an annoying querk. The EXE/DLL rules seem to be blocking certain parts of ECDL from running. In the event log it captures the following "%OSDRIVE%\USERS\USERNAME\APPDATA\LOCAL\TEMP\ET2.GDCEDHEF\FOCUS.BIN was prevented from running." Has anyone else encountered this? Any suggestions on how to whitelist this? The "ET2.GDCEDHEF" folder is random for each user and I'm a little wary of adding a wildcard whitelist for "%OSDRIVE%\USERS\USERNAME\APPDATA\LOCAL\TEMP\*" The *.BIN file has no signed Publisher so I can't set up a publisher rule and the EXE/DLL portion of AppLocker wont let me create a Hash rule for a *.BIN file! Annoying!
  9. BaconIt (Awesome Reddit App), Windows Phone Central and Weave are my most used apps.
  10. Nope, EE seems to have removed all trace of that offer
  11. No not yet. I've been hinting at people so it might arrive for Christmas The extra screen resistance is the only downside to the ZAGG. Other than that I can't fault it.
  12. I installed a ZAGG Invisible Shield on mine last night. Quite pleased with the results.
  13. I'm impressed with mine. For the first two-three days I was having battery issues. However after fully discharging and then recharging for a day or so the battery is now stable and is vastly better than I was used to with an iPhone 4. Also I found some of the early apps are a bit on the buggy side and can cause additional battery drain when used. For example, Skype and Facebook seem to drain the battery at a rate of 1% every few minutes while being used. As soon as I uninstalled those everything returned to normal. My favourite part of WP8 though has to be the People hub. I never have to check Facebook anymore because I can see all the updates from the people I'm bothered about via the People hub!
  14. Ooooooh! I went for a white one It's lovely!!
  15. I've taken the plunge and not only upgraded my home PC to Windows 8 (which I really like!) but I've just ditched my iPhone 4 for a Nokia Lumia 920. After 3 years of iOS I'm finding Windows Phone 8 a very freshing change. It's quick! The app store is still in it's early days, but even so I'm not missing much.
  16. ^^ This. GPP is a much cleaner way to do this in my opinion. With GPP and Item Filtering you can do everything you need. File checks, version checks. All doable by GPP.
  17. We're in the process of restructuring our User Data shares after our Windows 7 transition. At the moment our Students have their Home Drive mapped to "\\domain\LegacyData\Students\YearGroup\Username" but the permissions are wrong and we'd rather start a fresh than try and patch up. I've experimented with simply changing the Folder Redirect location and letting the "Move the contents of Documents to the new location" setting do the bulk of the work. This looks like it will do the work, the permissions on the folders created in the new location seem fine....but....that's all it's done. It's only created the folder structure. It hasn't copied any files or actually redirected. When I check the event logs on the machine I find that the redirect has failed... Failed to apply policy and redirect folder "Documents" to "\\domain\UserData\Students\2000\win7stu\Documents". Redirection options=0x1009. The following error occurred: "Failed to copy files from "\\domain\legacydata\studentwork\2000\win7stu" to "\\domain\UserData\Students\2000\win7stu\Documents"". Error details: "The system call level is not correct. ". I've tried to find any clues on this "system call" error without any major leads. It just seems to be a generic "I gone broked" error. We don't have any quotas on the new or old areas (yet!) which was one of the leads I found. Any suggestions? Or even alternatives?
  18. I'll go one better and post it here, that way others searching for the same thing will get to see it. http://i.imgur.com/thivC.jpg and the result, with Videos, Pictures and Music set to Hidden. Users only see Documents without having to use any registry hacks. http://i.imgur.com/EsObg.jpg http://i.imgur.com/DSC8X.jpg
  19. Ours seems to just use whatever the Folder Redirection says.
  20. What I do is use GPP to copy an updated version of the four Library files (which has the Public portions removed) from a Server Share to the User Profile on the Local Machine. Then on the Music, Pictures and Video ones I set the File Attributes to Hidden (also in GPP, it's a setting during the File Copy). The end result is that only the Documents Library appears. No reg hacks or anything. Just a simple Hidden attribute which can be easily reversed if needed.
  21. Fully 64bit here. All of our machines had 4gb so it made sense to use to make the most of it. A few of our Video editing boxes have 8gb. While most applications do not need all that RAM, we do have some that run miles better the more RAM you give them (Pro Tools, Sibelius, CS5.5, SolidWorks). Haven't had any issues. Infact, as others have stated, it gave us the oppertunity to ditch some of the old legacy applications that used to cause us headaches. It's also one less headache that we don't have to do in the future. Going from XP to W7 was stressful enough. The thought of doing XP to W732 then to W764 in the future or running both at the same time just seemed daft.
  22. If you set the library files in the User Profile to "Hidden" (which is very easy to do in GPP) then they wont show up.
  23. We've spotted on occasion that Low and LocalLow seems to be uploaded to our Users profile folder on the network. I didn't think this was supposed to happen? It doesn't happen every time or for every user. Usually when this happen the user is unable to log on until the profile is cleared, they get a "The Group Policy Client service failed at logon. Access is Denied" message. Any ideas on why this happens and how to prevent it?
  24. We found that our French Grammar Toolkit runs, but none of the buttons work. However our Staff are managing find by browsing to the Powerpoint they require and loading that manually. With the interactive elemnts in the Powerpoints themselves we found we had to add our Shared Folder as a Trusted Locations in Administrative Templates/Microsoft Office 2010/Security Settings/Trust Center. Once you have added that you then need to Enable "Allow Trusted Locations on the network" in Administrative Templates/Microsoft PowerPoint 2010/PowerPoint Options/Security/Trust Center/Trusted Locations. (there is a setting like this for each Office program but I've found Boardworks only requires the Powerpoint one). Once those are applied the users will not be prompted to Enable Macros / Active Content.
  25. We've got an odd issue appearing for one user at the moment. The user is rather unique as he is the only user that roams between two desktops, both with Local Printer queues. Most have Network/Shared Printers. What he's found is that he often has no Default printer assigned and even when he picks one he'll come back the next day and it will have reset. On looking through the event logs on one of the machines I spotted... Information 10/10/2012 06:47 Microsoft-Windows-PrintService 823 Changing the default printer The default printer was changed to HP LaserJet 3390 / 3392 PCL5,winspool,Ne00:. See the event user data for context information. Information 10/10/2012 06:47 Microsoft-Windows-PrintService 823 Changing the default printer The default printer was changed to Prep HM HP1200,winspool,Ne00:. See the event user data for context information. Information 09/10/2012 10:40 Microsoft-Windows-PrintService 823 Changing the default printer The default printer was changed to HP LaserJet 3390 / 3392 PCL5,winspool,Ne00:. See the event user data for context information. Information 09/10/2012 08:13 Microsoft-Windows-PrintService 823 Changing the default printer The default printer was changed to Prep HM HP1200,winspool,Ne00:. See the event user data for context information. It appears that the Local Printer (Prep HM HP1200) from the "Prep" machine is roaming with the user and trying to apply to the other machine (which has the HP LaserJet 3390 as the Local Printer). When it tries to apply the Default to a printer queue that doesn't exist then the machine is left without a default printer at all. Currently Local Printers are manually installed and configured. It's not anything in scripts or GPO that's doing it. Only shared printers are centrally managed via GPO/GPP and to prevent those from roaming we have a logoff script which deletes all Shared Printer connections. I've never seen a Local Printer roam like this before. Any ideas how to stop it? I've already considered using GPP to assign the correct Local Printer as the Default however if I could stop this from happening in the first place that would make things easier.
