This seems a very roundabout way of doing things, if the clients, for example are loading \\ipaddress\share\program.exe The clients wouldn't [shouldn't?] have to scan the whole workgroup, especially if using the IP address. Try running wireshark on your network to see what happens when a client is turned on and attempts to use that program.

USB? Our Prometheans are so old they run off the COM port, And the machines they are connected to are Pent 3's and are USB 1.1. They work fine though, no slowdowns at all.

Thanks guys, I knew the light did something when the pen goes near/touches it, I'll try another power supply when they're out of the room I'm not a fan of the prometheans, I'd punch one, but I'd have to replace the membrane (well, buy a new board)

A promethean board has stopped working here, All the cables are in, the computer can't detect it and the little light in the top left does not come on when the pen is on the board. The power supply for it seems fine, but due to the fact its almost built onto the wall, its almost impossible to check cables on the back. Anyone had anything similar, if so, is it time for a new board? protip: it's out of warranty.

It shouldn't do anything like that, try log in with another user via Rdesktop and see what happens when you lock?

Thanks for replies guys, and yeah We'll most likely be using ghost. I think the best option is to just d/c the machine, image it and reconnect it, I don't mind joining the new ones to the AD manually or messing with the SID. i'll start a machine imaging on friday night Thanks for all the help

I recently took over as the Techie for a primary school after the old guy left. Nothing in terms of imaging was kept, So I'm hoping to image one of the already working Machines in the IT Suite and just change its name and rejoin it to the domain, would that be possible? Imaging is the easy part, the part I think may cause trouble is the active directory. The reason I don't want to make up a fresh vanilla image is because there's a lot of software installed on the machines that would take ages to reinstall, some of it even has missing installation media. Does anyone have any tips or ideas for me?

Jailed Shell accounts for reasons like this, also SSH2 is quite hard to sniff, have a go, you'll be pleasently surprised.

There's a default "domain computers" category which all the machines are in, this has all the correct policies in place. I have to get access to a new machine or my laptop with a virtual machine on to see if it has fixed over the weekend (had a r/desktop session friday night) I have also tried logging on as a local admin and unticking everything in mobsync (and the like), infact this was the first thing I did.

Sorry to bring up an old thread: but this is an old trick we used to use at College, Open up a SSH connection to your home machine using port 443, because most firewalls allow it for HTTPS and you can use the tunnel for the internet, that is why there seems to be 'no pattern' of course, once the other students work out that you can do it, you end up being the local jailed shell host *edit, also SSH won't be so easily sniffed at,*

Hello there! I recently added some new machines to our Server 2003 Active Directory, all the GPO's work as they should, except one option. When logging off on those machines it shows the synchronizing box, Now the GPO's all say that this shouldn't come up, I tried gpupdate / force and even logging on as the local admin (or network admin) and telling the machines to not do it, but it only has effect for that user. Any help would be appreachiated.
