Good afternoon all, A few months ago, I posted about a project we were looking to implement to migrate our Physical servers to VM's. A bit further down the line, and after many design meetings, I think I'm finally there in terms of the solution. I have 2 suppliers I've worked with in the past and will be involving them with this. However, I wonder if anyone would like to provide recommendations for companies you've used in the past. I'm looking for someone who can work alongside us for the installation, involving the onsite team during the install. The project also has the option of a light touch support contract where we'd use them as a third line helpdesk if we weren't sure of something. Also, if anyone's used a company and wouldn't recommend them, feel free to PM me in confidence. I'd rather learn from any mistakes people have made. Thanks peeps.

Hi all, I just wondered, how do you provide access to SIMS and Documents (Shared and Home areas) to teachers away from school? Do you provide this access to everyone or just select users? Thanks

Since Wednesday, we have been having problems with receiving and delivering email. We find that emails will stick in the exchange queue for hours, before working through and being delivered. We've also noticed that whenever emails aren't delivered, we're also not able to access the OWA website externally... Although we can can access internally. When we're unable to access OWA, I can still ping our external IP address. Does anyone having any ideas what the problem could be? Nothing was changed prior to the problem. We have a smoothwall firewall and virgin internet connection. Smoothwall weren't able to spot any issues.

Issues with Active Directory Domain Services database
Archipelego1 replied to garybreeze's topic in Windows Server 2008 R2
Thanks. Can you advise on the steps you think would work? The OP stated their steps didn't work. For additional info, if the DC's are called DC0 and DC1 for example. DC1 is reporting the AD errors in event log, DC0 has no errors. Any changes made to DC1 are replicated to DC0. However, changes to DC0 don't replicate to DC1. Additionally, like the OP, the error event view relates to a specific user account. If we try to edit the properties of this account on DC0, everything works. However, if we try to make changes to the account on DC1, we receive an error. Therefore, I don't think we'd lose any AD changes by DCpromo'ing DC1 off in terms of lost changes as every change made on DC1 is replicating to DC0. Hope this makes sense. Thanks -
Issues with Active Directory Domain Services database
Archipelego1 replied to garybreeze's topic in Windows Server 2008 R2
Thanks. We have 2 DC's and backups. Just started running USB backups of the DC that isn't reporting issue, just incase fixing the 'faulty' DC breaks the working one. That way, my thoughts are, we can bare metal the working domain controller if we needed to. The replication errors started last tuesday. Therefore, we're a bit out of sync now between the two DC's. Would it be better to try an fix the issue using the methods supplied in the event log. Or, just try and DCPromo the failing DC off the network? -

Hi there Gary, Do you have an update on how you resolved this issue? We're having exactly the same problem and just in the process of troubleshooting -
Hi all, I wonder if anyone can help. Since the installation of our Smoothwall UTM solution, I've noticed that some of our servers are now detecting their network as a public profile, rather than Domain. Also, one of our domain controllers is stuck trying to identify its network. All servers have the Smoothwall UTM as their default gateway. Has anyone come across this issue? Thanks

Morning all, We're currently looking into a project to migrate our physical infrastructure to Virtual. We've already deployed a few VM's on servers with local attached storage, and have an Equallogic SAN which is used purely for file storage. We have a main server room which will be used to host the main infrastructure and a backup server room that we'll use as a DR site. The DR site will contain a cut down version of the main infrastructure. We're also looking to do offsite replication to another site. We've engaged with a few companies to understand the solutions that would be available to us. Given that we're late to the Virtualisation game, I'd like to take advantage of everyone's knowledge to learn from your positive experiences and also mistakes Questions to my fellow Edugeeks ... What solutions do you have in place What did you learn from your deployments What would you do differently if you were to start again Can you recommend any companies who you've worked with in the past. Thanks muchly.

I'm also thinking a Hybrid might be an option. When company did you choose for your MFD Leases?

Thanks for the reply and information. In terms of your managed contract, is ink and warranty included, with you just paying a price per colour/mono page? How have you found the durability of the printers, have you had much damage or faults? Are they student/teacher proof?
-
Salutations all, I'm currently looking at our managed print contract which comes up for renewal towards the end of the year. We currently have nearly 40 managed colour printers which we pay quite a lot for. I'm looking to review this with a view to reduce the number of printers and replace some colour for mono. I'm currently looking at my options. Whether we signup for another managed service, with a review of our printer fleet. Have a hybrid solution with the main school printers being managed, then other subject areas and offices have standardised school owned printers. Or go fully school owned, managing our own printer fleet. What have you deployed in your schools and do you have any views on the solution/company you use?

Had a similar issue myself. Turned out to be a problem with fast user switching being enabled on some machines. Disabled this and the problem disappeared.

Hi all, looks like noone is able to assist with the problem I'm having. Can I enquire, is anyone running App Inventor offline? If so, what are you using?
-
Afternoon all, I'm trying to find a solution to being able to use app inventor offline. Checking the forums and 'google-ing' a solution, I've come across two possible solutions. One is Axe's MIT AppInventor V2, the other is Ai2Live. Unfortunately, I'm not able to get either working. With Axe's software, I follow the instructions and install everything. I can get the emulator running but can't see how you can access anything offline. The open app inventor button sends me to MIT's website, which isn't what I expected. I thought I'd have been directed to an offline website. Moving on, I thought I'd give Ai2Live a try. Again, followed the instructions and managed to get the local version of the App Inventor website working on This is a CDN address. However, when I click on the connect to emulator option, the emulator loads and the companion app fires up. I then receive an error in the Offline App Inventor website telling me : the companion version you are using is out of date. The version of app inventor should be used with companion version 2.17ai2zx1. Right, I thought. Back to google. I came across articles that tells me, specific versions of App Inventor expects a specific version of the companion app. Looking at the ReadMe for Ai2, it does reference needing to install the companion .apk file in the install folder, onto the device. So, my device is the Emulator...I think. More google-ing tells me I need to run the following command to install the companion app onto the emulator : adb -e install -r companion_app_name.apk. I do this and get the following error : Failure [install_parse_failed_inconsistent_certificates] rm failed for -f, read-only file system. So, after this long post, I'm appealing to everyone here.... can you help? Is anyone running App Inventor OffLine? Is anyone doing it like me and if so, have you come across the error? I'd rather not sign up everyone for google accounts. We use O365, so I don't want to sign up for Google's Apps for Education, no matter how good or bad it is. Any advise or assistance is greatly appreciate.

Good afternoon all, Just started a new role and am looking into the requirements of the new computing curriculum around coding and web publishing, while also protecting the network from pupil hacking. My thoughts were that I'd setup some kind of sandboxed environment, which would give pupils access to a 'virtual' environment of some kind. This would then allow them the ability to run code, while safely keeping the live network safe. My question to all is, how have you modified your networks to allow pupils to create and run their scripts and code? I've seen this alluded to on a few threads, but not a definitive answer. Thanks for any help you can offer.
