  1. Just out of curiosity do you know how far in advance tapping should be before the pulling of the frist pint from the barrel? The only ever pub I worked at many many moons ago used to insist on 36 hours at least but I don't know if that would count as sloppy or over-cautious or just about right?
  2. Thanks guys - turns out we had the latest version of Chrome everywhere in the school except the machines they have down in music - problem solved
  3. Hi all Not sure if this is in the right sub-forum, if not sorry to the mods and please shift it over. Our music department is using a website noteflight.com for music notation work. Trouble is, they can't use IE11 due to the rubbishness of IE11 and HTML5 so they have to use Chrome. When they try and login on Chrome they get an error message saying they must enable cookies and disable private browsing to log in. I've searched up and down through our entire group policy list and I can find the settings where we have disabled incognito mode and enabled cookies so that all seems fine, but still noteflight won't allow logins. Does anyone know of any other GPO settings that may interfere with cookies/private browsing that it may be worth changing to see if they resolve the problem? Obviously changing each one then testing it would take a long time (and could open up things we don't want) so I'm hoping, probably ridiculously optimistically, that someone else has had a similar issue. My google-fu has failed me on this one too. Thanks in advance for any pointers
  4. Never saw the replies to this - if you feel the price is too steep but you're interested in the items feel free to PM me and make an offer. Please do PM me though rather than just reply here, I don't have a lot of time to monitor threads in here but I'll pick up PMs pretty much daily. Nothing wrong with it, just surplus to requirements as we bought in a load of new switches.
  5. Hi all Downsizing from a 2 bed flat to a room in a shared house so I have a few items that I can't take with me. Before this stuff goes on gumtree/ebay next week figured I'd give you edugeekers a chance to get in there first. Foldaway table with 4 folding chairs and 2 proper dining chairs. As picture below but without the drawer above the chair section. Looking for £25ono for the lot (including the 2 extra chairs) Double bed frame with mattress. it's been used as a spare room bed so has only been slept on half a dozen times since the mattress was new. Mattress by itself was £150 about 9 months ago - Looking for £70ono for both mattress and bed frame. Pair of dark grey sofas, one 2 seat one 3 seat. Cost over £1000 new about 5 years ago and very little wear / near perfect condition still. Look very similar to the picture below without the strip of wood right along the bottom front and sides. Looking for £500ono for the pair. 2 chests of drawers in beech finish. One wide 3 drawer and a narrow 2 drawer. Bought from John Lewis for about £500 yonks ago so they're not ikea flat pack rubbish, decent build quality. One small dent/chip (2mm or so) on the edge of one of the large unit drawer fronts. Looking for £80ono for the pair. I'll update/add pictures by tomorrow with pictures of the actual items and take measurements for size guides. Based in Southern Hertfordshire (St Albans), but willing to deliver within reasonable distance/for the right offer when I have the van to move my stuff on 9 September. Any interest please PM me, We're doing a lot of hardware install work over the holidays and I don't always have time to check my threads on edugeek for replies.
  6. Another random item! Sunlight K3 card printer - we have used it for a while for printing off staff ID cards and visitor cards. It's now been replaced by a module we added to our till system to deal with registration and visitors with a new card printer of it's own Cheapest one I can find out in the world is £250 used on eBay CIM Sunlight K3 Duplex Plastic ID Card Printer | eBay That one comes with 100 cards but no ribbons, drivers or manual. Ours has three brand new printer ribbons plus original software and full manual - I can't find any cards right now but I'll have a scout around and throw them in too if I can find them. Will take £200 - collection from north edge of M25 or I can deliver along the M4 corridor or down the M3 as far as Basingstoke if you can be flexible on accepting a weekend/evening delivery sometime over the summer holidays. Anyone looking for a cheap(ish) way to make all your staff badges look much more professional?
  7. Me again - more clearing out! Got 3 sets of Quizdom handsets handed back by our Maths department. they don't use them any more as they've moved on to new things. All looks complete and apparently they still work OK (got some on charge now to test them). I have no idea what the sets cost new but happy to take about 20-25% of whatever that figure is once I can find it out. Or make an offer! On the north edge of the M25, can deliver along the M4 or the top half of the M3 as I travel down those directions fairly regularly.
  8. Full complete wifi setup for sale. 1 x HP MSM765z1 controller module for core switch 38 x HP E-MSM460 AP Includes brackets and PoE injectors for the APs £6000 the lot. We're on the northern edge of the M25 for collection, but I can deliver along the M4 corridor or to the top half of the M3 corridor if you're willing to be flexible about waiting for a bit and accepting an evening/weekend delivery as I travel down those directions for personal reasons moderately often. It's a decent setup, the only reason we're getting rid is that we've now got a new Xirrus wireless system after winning a grant for some bonus funding.
  9. Looking to move on some of our old kit after buying in a full new set during the year. All of these are in good physical condition and were working with no issues when we replaced them. HP 2610-48 x 2 HP 2620-48 x 1 HP 2626-24 x 4 HP 2530-48G x 1 £200 each or £1400 for all 8 (or would be willing to discuss a trade for 30 decent monitors depending on monitor spec) Maybe good for someone that needs a cheapish way of expanding their network during an expansion or something like that? We've kept back 3-4 ourselves as spares in case one of our new ones goes kaput. 1G fibre HP gbics can be left in most them at no extra cost (we're now running a 10G network) - we only have 7 gbics though so the 8th switch we sell can't have one. In the south east (just outside the north side of the M25) and buyer can collect or we can discuss delivery (I'm often over near S Wales or down in Hampshire for non-work reasons so anywhere near the M4 or the top half of the M3 I can prob deliver if you can be flexible about evening/weekend delivery)
  10. Never came back to this - I'm now just under 16.5 stone and still going strong - hoping to go under 16 stone by mid-June. If anyone else is still following their new years resolution to shift the flab then keep it up!
  11. Hi all Just a quicky hopefully. We've had a number of kids now that have bypassed our block on them running their own .exe files by zipping them up, opening them up with the zip software (in our case zipcentral) and running the .exe or .bat from within that window. This means Impero doesn't block it and they can run pretty much whatever they want on our network. Is there a free zip program that's any good that anyone knows of that doesn't allow this feature, or any way to turn off this feature in zipcentral? We need them to still be able to zip and unzip as it's part of some of the ICT courses. Cheers in advance for any assistance.
  12. I've been advised by my much wiser colleague that you should maybe check your power supply to the room - if it's near the limit and fluctuating it may cause the random reboots... (That or a scheduled task but there shouldn't be any on the Clevertouch)
  13. Been doing the 5-2 diet since New Year and have lost around a stone and a half but have hit a big plateau between 18 and 18.5 stones - just can't seem to make the push onto a weight starting with "17 stone..." - hopefully this week I finally make it (it's 50/50 and depends on how well behaved I am in the next 3 days food-wise) (PS I'm 6'6" so 17/18/19 stones is unhealthy but maybe not quite as bad as it sounds...)
  14. Stop talking bull, or I shall have a beef with you all!
  15. oh you didn't..... *sigh*
  16. I haven't had pancake day yet but I never stick to the proper date anyway and usually have 3-4 pancake days every year
  17. Yeah definitely - get someone trained to give you a routine, just remember to have enough flexibility so it's not the same workout every time. Also, I perhaps over-did my last point about free weights. The way I was actually taught by a PT to structure my gym sessions a few years back was warm up - free weights - machine weights (to target problem areas when the muscles are getting a little tired and good form is too difficult to maintain) - cardio - warm down. But I sat down wit him and made 4 different workout plans which I alternated between so I didn't get bored or stuck in a rut with it.
  18. Only the first coupla times - after that it can be quite amusing identifying the different species in there (the grunters, the hoarders, the show offs, etc etc) Edit - or just go in and grab the weights you need and take them to somewhere else to use them (just make sure you take them back...)
  19. Just to add to what witch said, it's better if you can to use free weights rather than machines. Machines will guide the weights along very set paths and you will exercise an extremely narrow range of muscles, whereas with free weights your body is forced to stop the weight falling off to one side or wherever so the extra work done stabilising the weight into the proper positions gives you better overall strength conditioning.
  20. Also if you're not strong enough to do body weight exercises with good form get the barbells out and find some (preferably compound) exercises that hit the muscle groups you need to work on. Say you weigh 80kg, you're trying to jump straight to some factor of that with body weight moves, whereas you could start way down at 5-10kgs with the barbells and work up to the bodyweight stuff. Also I like this site (tho never completed any of the programs to finish, but that's due to my own lack of staying power): Hundred Pushups
  21. Subtitle: On the internet, nobody knows you're a dog So I recently got handed the task of leading the research and implementation of how we use digital accounts with our students with a focus on e-safety. For example, one of the most recent threads in here at time of writing is about students being effectively forced to either create or use an existing google account in order to do their schoolwork because AppInventor requires a google sign-in. I'm trying to steer clear of the specifics on individual sites or programs for now as I think that, at least for me, I need a more abstract set of principles to build on so that our future policy is consistent and coherent. I've been doing a lot of reading in the past couple of weeks and the thing that has struck me as most interesting is the way in which we think of pupils and their online identities in school. Obviously no school is ideologically monolithic on this, just like no person is monolithically right or left wing politically, there's a definite spectrum with a lot of nuance for individual topics. That said, I woul classify the two main schools of thought of this discussion as follows: Authoritarian/Protectionist - This school of thought says that we ban Facebook, Twitter, etc in order to protect students who do not have a full understanding of the dangers inherent in such platforms. This not only works to protect the student from being affected by negative influences on these platforms during school time and/or on school networks, but it also works to protect the school and the school staff from accusations of liability or negligence because a student has been targeted by a scam/predator/bully/etc while under our care. Individualist/Educational - This school of thought says that students identities in the 21st century are inherently both offline and online in nature. Most students have a variety of online accounts anyway, and these accounts are as much a part of that student's sense of identity as the things they do and say in the real world. By blocking out this side of a student's identity we are not optimising the educational experience and are in fact preventing ourselves from providing them with the best tools in order to continue the development of the online aspect of their identity in a safe and productive way. Just looking for others' thoughts on how we can balance these two philosophies. Does your school have a lockdown approach or a more liberal one and do you agree with it (and why)?
  22. Can anyone advise if this ruling has any impact on the telemetry collection being ramped up with every new update in Windows? Obviously scrapping Windows would be a massive step, but if they are keylogging in the wrong places and sending the wrong data back to Microsoft in the US doesn't this also make Windows 10 de facto illegal in the EU?
  23. OK thanks for the help - at least I know I can stop googling every variation of the problem trying to work it out now
  24. I've got details of all the old vlans - he saved them into a text file before he started removing them. Not got full config from the old switches tho. We've reassigned most of the fixed IPs from the old switches directly to the new switches so I think it would be very likely to cause an IP conflict if I powered one back up again to check things. If it's likely to be something along these lines I'll just wait for the specialist to come in on Tuesday - the one thing that bugs me more than anything is unqualified/amateur people causing more damage by trying to fix problems they don't fully understand and I don't want to drop into that category myself. The staff have a remote login that gives them 90% functionality from off site which appears to still be working OK so no huge rush from that side of things.
