Since leaving the school where I worked in Nottingham, I've ended up locking myself out of my Edugeek account, hence me having to create a new one today...
I apologise that this is not strictly an Education job, but working for the NHS is pretty darn close (just better paid, I'm happy to say!). Having failed to attract the right candidate for the above post last month, I thought it might be a good idea to mention it in here - I know there was at least one very keen and well-qualified guy in here who was bursting a gut to get back into work when I last worked in education and hung around here a lot. I can also say first-hand that the work environments of a busy school, and within the NHS, are very similar indeed.
Enough of the preamble: this position would be ideal for someone verging on network manager standard, or wanting to work up to that. There is the usual variety of networking components, Microsoft desktops and servers, printers, and assorted bespoke software, just like in schools. Users can also be demanding, although generally very laid back and friendly, & while the workload can be high at times, the job is every bit as enjoyable as it can be challenging.
For someone motivated and aiming to move up the career ladder, it offers an ideal opportunity to achieve the experience needed to move on to a Network Manager / System Administrator job. It's well-paid, and the salary starts at £21,818, rising to £28,462 after 8 years, with the first incremental rise after 6 months. Holiday entitlement also rises year-on-year, and while you'll not enjoy the number of days Annual Leave of a teacher, you won't have to knock your pan out all through the school holidays either!
Speaking of holidays, this is also in one of the most breathtakingly beautiful, yet still accessible, parts of Scotland, just a couple of hours drive from Glasgow (1 hour from the shops in Campbeltown or Oban, and 1.5 from Clydebank, where the Clyde Shopping Centre is home to some of the best budget shops in the UK). The bus takes slightly longer, but not by much, and the bright lights and nightlife of Glasgow (not to mention some of the UK's top music venues) are readily accessible at weekends, although not so much through the week.
If you enjoy driving, walking, hillclimbing, nature, scenery, seaside, seafood, good food or a combination of any or all of these, then this might be the ideal opportunity for you! Also available (subject to availability) is ultra-cheap accommodation onsite until you get settled.
We are looking for a good team player, enthusiastic, able, with the type of skillset expected of a seasoned ICT technician in a larger secondary school. Flexi-time is on offer too, and you can carry a day and a half over to the following month (or work a day and a half in deficit in a month, without having to affect your Annual Leave entitlement). Some travel to other sites is to be expected, you only need a full driving licence, as pool cars are generally available. Opportunities include visits to the stunning islands of the inner Hebrides, including Islay, Jura and Tiree, taking in some of the most beautiful scenery that Scotland has to offer (not to mention the golf.... or the whisky!)
