We got the TabCabby 32 recently and it's a good bit of kit. Is there a particular reason why the administrative staff would be using Apple computers if the majority of fixed curriculum workstations are not - or are they also? You may wish to draw up a guideline specification for all workstation computers to assist the tendering companies.

Sit her down and ask her very seriously whether she's sure she's got the right canary here. Follow up with a lecture on the mottled, lesser-spotted and pygmy varieties... If it's disabled it can probably get Canary Benefits. Microsoft's just trying to promote the use of the welfare system (as if any more were necessary) as a nod to ObamaCare... for ALL species!

It's possible to do this in PARS using Rule-Based Behaviours.

You can't do it with -memberof; the "cn=%1,cn=Users,dc=Room45,dc=local" string ought to be sufficient. Can't imagine why that's not working. Maybe try them in an actual OU.

"Users" is an OU, not a group - that could be why.

Some of this does come down to pricing in the end. We only implemented any form of electronic registration two years ago (don't ask!), and at that time we reviewed our options. Because we had never bought Lesson Monitor, the quote for that came in at £5.5K. When we asked TASC Software for a quote on PARS, interestingly enough this came in at exactly the same amount. The decision was a no-brainer for us: buy something that does X for Y money, or buy something that does X plus so much else for Y money. Through PARS, we are now in a position to save £1.8K on KeepKidsSafe as we no longer need this (PARS replicates all the functionality of KeepKidsSafe that we require), so there is an immediate cost saving.

Have you been able to put all of those products together into a working domain solution yet? Depends if you have the spare hardware lying around to do it I suppose... So you'd install Windows Server and set up an AD domain, generate a client image (maybe using Hyper-V to build it up) and host it on WDS, checking that you can network boot a test client and image it, get WSUS set up and verify that the new workstation can receive updates from it (deploying the configuration through GPO), maybe generate some MSIs and deploy them through GPO as well. Then you could set your server up with RDS and test its operation as a terminal server (not allowed to call it that any more!), install SCCM on the server and try remotely managing the workstation through that... etc. Essentially you'd be replicating, as far as possible, a complete production environment of the sort that members deal with on a day-to-day basis. As we've all learnt, it's all very well to play with the technologies individually - and of course our 40 and 50-year-olds are still quite happy to "play" with shiny new kit, that spirit never dies! - but of course, the real challenges and pitfalls come when you have to integrate it all together as a single set of technologies and get/keep it all working! Just my tuppence worth. I'm sure whatever you decide to do, there will be some members around to help you out!

I meant that PARS Connect is the web-based version of the client, but there is also a full application that can run on workstations if you have the .NET Framework deployed everywhere.

We're having an issue with an NEC NP100 projector just recently. When you press the freeze button, the freeze icon shows up but it doesn't actually freeze the output (image still changes)... what it DOES freeze is any of the other buttons on either the remote or the projector itself (including the power button)! Anyone ever had anything like that before?
