  1. A further few interesting comments on this, this time from El Reg's take on it: Well... if that's what they're measuring... Or, in fact, a basis for saying we're not sure how exactly it applies to this country anyway? So, again: maybe measure by those standards instead and you might see a different picture, whereas if the focus is more literacy/numeracy-based as it seems to be, then I'm not all that surprised...
  2. Mostly agree, but the "tail wagging the dog" method is actually a very common approach to genuine innovation at the end of the day (the Linux kernel, for example). Too much of it is a problem and there's no point spending the money before you've even looked at how you could use it, but sometimes we do make purchases based around the potential of something which we suspect is not yet fully tapped... though we have at least seen something in it before we do.
  3. I agree broadly with all that's been said, though when the article started saying things like "there is no single country in which the internet [sic] is used frequently at school by a majority of students and where students' performance improved", I must admit I was reminded of this: Spurious Correlations
  4. Is that Grade 7 (based on) an NJC evaluation?
  5. I hope you're rolling those Rs... Just my 2p's worth, but I would be looking at: 1 x NM 2 x Technician 1 x Apprentice (make sure you reserve time for training) 0.5 x of 1 of those 2 Technicians for the Primary support package.
  6. I don't know, all this irresponsible aging going on all over the place... CORBYN WILL FIX IT!!!
  7. Well, stop it! Me too in 15 months... :/
  8. It's like Microsoft hired M. Night Shyamalamalamalamalan to write their new error screens...
  9. Well, you could look at setting up a student lab there, using either ESXi Free or Hyper-V Server 2012 R2. How does it compare to your Production setup?
  10. CPU core count per server?
  11. What's the spec of the servers, and what's the storage on the SAN?
  12. What we're considering doing is moving from Start Menu shortcuts to Desktop shortcuts. You can remove the "All Apps" button via GPO and then move your shortcut folders to the Desktop. That means users won't get to see all the extra gumph anyway, and it also deals with the issue of not being able to have shortcuts in sub-folders on the new Start Menu.
  13. Exactly the same here. Enterprise but no keys, only MAK keys for Education and not enough for a full-site deployment. We're not moving over for another year so I'll give Microsoft a couple of months to sort their shee-ut out before whinging at somebody...
  14. We use DiskCryptor here, mainly because it's fully scriptable so can be run as part of the image build task.
  15. Does anyone know how to get rid of the annoying built-in app shortcuts when using a redirected Start Menu?
  16. Does anyone know how to get rid of the annoying built-in app shortcuts when using a redirected Start Menu?
  17. I'm going to be assisting another school in September by giving them remote access. They run RM Community Connect (I don't know what version but I think it's fairly recent). The way I'd like to go about it is to mirror our current setup here, whereby we add a new VM with sufficient vCPU/vRAM, running Server Enterprise, and install all relevant workstation software followed by RemoteApp and the RDS Gateway Service. But is there anything else I'd need to do to make sure it works with the RM infrastructure? Are there Community Connect client components that would need to be installed, as on a normal RM workstation? I haven't worked with Connect since the 2.4 days so I'm a little unsure...
  18. It basically seems to be functionally identical to Enterprise, though I've heard they're including some APIs which will make it easier for devs to code up Impero-style features in the future. As for the Express settings, I think Education is designed to be used by teaching staff at home as well as in school, hence the "easy upgrade from Home to Education", so that's probably what that bit's for. They know school admins will turn it off for image builds anyway. Does anyone have a KMS key for Windows 10 Education yet? I can only see a 250-limit MAK key in the VLSC so far...
  19. @kieransaul, I'm not sure you have enough pinned apps there. Have you thought about adding a few more?
  20. Same here, about 40 minutes in the morning. Varies for a number two throughout the day as I have a succession of well-thumbed "bathroom books"...
  21. My only "result" from that line of thought is that a pair of scales can go screw themselves!
  22. .... nope, never weighed myself. Generally assumed that whatever goes in comes out, minus the useful parts...
  23. I agree overall, though there's also something to be said for the concept of "leading from behind"...
  24. What is "the boardroom environment"?
  25. @fiza, have you verified it as working on your site? It's working here but I haven't had confirmed reports from others yet I don't think...
