Hi All, Thanks for comments, agree with what you all say. What I hadn't given much thought was if whoever takes over Sims from Capita, will they support sims VM in the cloud etc....Lots of unknowns at the moment. We have used Xenapp and then moved to Remoteapp to allow access to all staff for many years now. Home access we have o365 2FA etc....so all tightened down and secure. But its fairly complex behind the scenes. It'd make sense to review everything considering 3rd party vendors like Edulink are also costing the school. The other high schools in our trust are using Solus and sims client installed directly to staff laptops, and I believe the other are now looking at remoteapp. It'd make sense to look at this from a trust level, but like said, I need senior management to be onboard. We are now at a point where our sims server could do with being replaced, and our session host servers are struggling with demand and no room for expansion. Now is the time to make a decision on which direction we'll go, before any investments are made. Better start working my magic haha

Are many schools moving away from Sims these days?
-
Moved to which system? Im convinced and most the data/admin teams hate sims too, very clunky and old design, and constant errors, but the upheaval of changing analysis reporting etc.....along with 3rd party apps relying on sims DB. It'd be a big project, plus we are now in a trust and the other schools use sims too. So I imagine it'd need to be a trust level change.

Sims cloud is years away as yet (from a reliable system) and changing MIS systems with regards to reporting and data isn't something the school are up for doing. Otherwise I'd move away from SIMS completely lol

Hi, Has anyone done this? If we had a VPN to Azure to extend our network into the cloud, has anyone any experience of the performance of the sims.net client installed locally and connecting to the DB in Azure? Does Solus work ok etc....? Cheers, Matt.

I've looked at moving the sims server to Azure, we have been quoted and its not bad, but unsure how 3rd party applications would work like Edulink etc.... For the moment, if I could replace remoteapp with one or two VM clients in Azure, with a local instance of sims client and spec'd to allow the required concurrent connections, that'd do for the moment.

Hi all, Is anyone using or looking to using this method? We have a fully fledged remoteapp setup for staff to access sims.net on their laptops and desktops and from home with 2Fa enabled to keep it all secure. The session host servers are now struggling with demand and im looking at possible alternative solutions. Azure VM with sims.net installed and access to all clients, seems ideal as it removes all the servers and on costs and time to maintain remoteapp (connection broker, gateway, licensing, session hosts, failover etc...) Pricing has also fallen and is now reasonable. Has anyone else looked to do this? Thanks, Matt.

Yeah tried that and exact same error? I won't install any module ???
-
Just what im after, but were getting the error that Grant-CSUserPolicy wasn't a recognized command....even though Teams was an imported module. Uninstalled the module, then tried to add again and now get this error? WARNING: Source Location 'https://www.powershellgallery.com/api/v2/package/MicrosoftTeams/1.0.5' is not valid.

artfulmatt replied to artfulmatt's topic in MIS Systems
hahaha...ok shall bear that in mind - so its a remote server, and I'd need to keep it up to date with patches/upgrades etc... How do the clients connect? is that all RDP sessions? - - - Updated - - - OK cheers !! -

I've been asked by our Finance Director - they were the only 3 she gave me, but shall pass this across to her. -
Hi All, I've been asked to investigate the following finance systems to be used within a Multi Academy Trust. Does anyone have experience with them? Are they stable platforms, are the clients simple to use, updates etc.... Thanks, Matt.

Hi, With O365 and Azure and other cloud platforms and with Win10 being designed to work per user more than it is multiuser, how feasable would it be to run a device per user (students) in education? With MDM and MFA in Azure enrolling devices and all the app deployment and management it kind of makes sense. But cost (per device) would be huge ?? Has anyone else thought about it? Matt.

Cheers - its bundled in with MS 365 E3, E5 and E5 F1

Hi, Does anyone have this, which subscription is it linked too? I've read it was on the 365 A1 for faculty but its not anymore? Cheers, Matt.

I've been at a local crossfit box for 3 yrs this summer...initially (first year) my fitness improved and strength was the best it had ever been. But it began to plateau as it does in any sport. So I broke it down into 3 main elements last year 1. Strength - so worked on my Olympic lifting and all the accessory drills and not forgetting the squats, deadlift etc... 2. Gymnastics - lots of crossover to Olympic lifting, in that you need good body weight strength, mobility, stability, power and speed. Worked on progressions to handstands, muscle ups etc... 3. Metcons or cardio as it's also known lol...followed a program that mixed up workouts in different types (emom, amrap, for time) and then threw in all the movements haha...good fun but bloody hard work. Gonna do much the same this year, but prob going to work on main weaknesses before going back to metcons (although do the odd one)

Try using https://tdeecalculator.net/ Basically you can calculate how many calories you need to be consuming to 1. maintain current weight 2. gain weight 3. lose weight - all dependent on how active you are. This tends to work for most as you can eat what you want - if your in a calorie deficit you will lose weight regardless if its just chocolate you have eaten. For the first week or so use a good tracker (my fitness pal) and input everything you eat (you can scan barcodes) then you can get a good idea of what you are consuming? If you cook from scratch, just weight the items and look on the packets to see how many cals it would be. Only need to do that for a little while and you'll soon get the idea. Matt.

Tried both locally and via a share? the share is set to everyone as read?
-
Thanks, but no change?

That's just a test to get one tile to display.

Yep read that on Friday and tested :- Path within XML is DesktopApplicationID="C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\Avid\Sibelius\Sibelius.exe"
-
Check XML and its valid, had ran via the powershell command. Also checked All users and the programs are listed? Can't figure out why the start menu is blank other than settings and search, and the tiles don't show (although not overly bothered by that at the moment)
-
This is not a custom start, although custom tiles would be nice. Its literally the default start menu with office and other applications installed.
