I can recommend The Mac Place The Guy that runs it is very helpful on another forum and VERY knowledgeable about integrating Mac and AD.

I ended up sticking with Network Homes. I redirected most of the contents of the Library folder to the local drive using WGM. The performance increase is very noticable!

I'm trying to do something very similar and have run into the same issue as you, unable to redirect the Desktop folder! Did you manage to fix the issue?

Thanks for the reply. I was thinking of using them instead of Network Homes, to speed up the user experience. But I am concerned about the sync'ing of files and extended login/logout times. I'm also "playing" with folder redirection as I think this may help too.

Is anyone using Portable Home Directories (PHDs) with Students? I'm thinking of converting our students from Network Home Folders to PHDs. But I'm in two minds and would appreciate feed back from others.

Turns out that it's a DNS issue! Bl**dy DNS!!

I've successfully bound my macs & server to our AD but we've got a slight issue. When a user tries to login they get past the Login window but their home area isn't mounted. It's as if it freezes. The AD plugin is set to use the unc path and to mount using smb. The home areas are stored on a Windows Server. Anyone had any similar problems?

Decided FontExplorer is going to be too difficult to manage, so we're going to use Font Book instead.

I'm trying to setup a default Font library to push out to students but FontExplorer doesn't seem to like Network Home folders. Every time it loads it forgets what fonts have been added. Has anyone got FontExplorer to work with Network Home Folders? Cheers.

Our Macs (10.5) are bound to an AD Server (2003) and OS X Server (10.5). All the home folders are stored on the AD. When a user logs into a Mac the default mac folders aren't created. Is there a way to create or push these folders out, similar to how it would work if the home folders were stored on the OS X Server? Cheers.
