  1. I only know the ins and outs because we had hell setting up an 18 laptop trolley recently. Chris
  2. So you're converting to linux then? Most of the above could be sorted by boycotting microsoft... Chris
  3. Yea, but with different SSIDs, the 10 laptops you set to connect will only go through that airstation, and not link to the others, sharing out the bandwidth. Chris
  4. get 3 airstations with different SSIDs and share the load. Chris
  5. I don't have many problems with it tbh, it works for us as a small team, is a bit frustrating at times, but hey, that's the job we have. Chris
  6. Here's one..... Everyone should go RM CC3 :O !!!!! Chris
  7. Ugh, when will people learn about scanning attachments!!!! Chris
  8. Yea! 8 even. "I haven't seen a good thread like this since the great........" Chris
  9. A little slow, was that sarcastic alan? We run 2 d-link "wireless routers" (they don't like being called airstations) to link 18 Laptops, both with deperate SSIDs, channels and bands. Chris
  10. He's not taking the time off, he's stated that it is the only time he has left on his contracted hours, being term time + 4weeks. I'm sure if he was given the choice of being full time, he'd consider it purely on having more time to do these sorts of jobs. As is it, his school probably can't afford full time and that is by no means his fault. I think we do need to be sensitive to other peoples situations. You are entitled to your opininion, yes. But other people are also entitled to disagre with your opinion. Chris
  11. I have to gree with david here. I am on a 52week contract, a way we look at it here is, it would take us approx a week+ to cable up a room of 30stations. For £60 a double socket, a professional company will come in and do everything within 1-2day, so that's running the cables, terminating them both ends, installing patch pannels, testing all the connections, cleaning up after. That's far more convenient. And if you work that out the comparative cost of your time to do it, when you can be sorting higher priority jobs, I'm afraid that wins out. Chris
  12. SMT decided we should get 2 RM Notebus units, and already we have had 1 laptop stolen, and the other trolley has had the back mangled up by someone with what appears to be a screwdriver! my initial reaction is AVOID!! As they say on robot chicken, "If you buy things like that, you're funding TERRORISM!" Chris
  13. Setting up 3 stations for media. 15 for technology. Service release to install Couple of switches to swap out. Reimage 8 Laptops. General maintenance. And a 2 week holiday! Chris
  14. Are you being serious?.......... http://edugeek.net/index.php?name=Forums&file=viewtopic&t=3505 Gives you some idea... Chris
  15. There's a forum support backlog, soon we're gonna have posts consisting of "we are experiencing a high volume......" The HORROR!!!!! Chris
  16. Sky and their crafty encryption, isn't it along the same lines as macrovision encryption? Chris
  17. I love the fact that it's "kind of crashed". Sorry to hear you're having trouble. Chris
  18. We had a reeeally annoying problem with prodesktop 2000i, it wouldn't install, the setup MSI would "unexpectedly" get interrupted. We found we had to update our version of Windows installer! Chris
  19. I still say fibre, it makes good connections, and keeps you regular Chris
  20. Ahhhhhhh, PhysX, hrmmmmm....... The game thats being developped with super amazing physics, cell factor, is supposed to only work properly with physics. But if you change a line in the config file, you get all the same physics without the card, it just asks more of your hardware. I must admit, I do have a USB cup warmer/4port hub. But having USB connections AND a hot cup of coffee are essential! Chris
  21. I would say that for distances around/over 30-40m, avoid cat5, because the signal degregation at those sorts of length is quite bad, don't even think about pushing 50+ Another advantage of linking building with fibre, is that if the building is high enough, linking cables from the rooftops is possible, with less risk of lightning problems. Chris
  22. Coaxial copper cable? Chris
  23. Ooooooooooohhhhhhhhh, looks shiney!!!1 Only joking, thats a card for those cases with the perspex sides! "Pimp my station!" hehehe Chris
  24. I'm gonna go with, it's old a slow..........(I know this isn't the case, but it could be an opinion). Chris
  25. We have fibres hanging from the roofs of all the buildings here..... Chris
