QCA Testing - Admin Point System - Import from SIMS
Burt replied to andy_d's topic in Educational Software
There was a tool produced a few years ago that I still use called, helpfully 'PLASC Utility'. When I produce my export from SIMS I then it through the Utility and it sorts it all out... .zip attached PLASCUtility.zip -
When I attempt to download your newsletter or go to your VLE I get the following error; webnet.suttcold.bham.sch.uk:443 uses an invalid security certificate. The certificate is not trusted because the issuer certificate is unknown. (Error code: sec_error_unknown_issuer) Also just a personal niggle but I like to see the header hyper linked to the home page... Very slick though

Moodle - Assigning roles to course catagories
Burt replied to Half-Dead's topic in Virtual Learning Platforms
You can hide courses from students by using the show\hide button (the little eye when you have editing turned on) This of course is also an all or nothing scenario... I use this to keep courses from students but staff can see them. -
Oh bum, I have to train the staff how to use uniservity!

Just before the training turn off your router. Job done no learning platform...no training. -
This is supposed to be a new 'feature' that will be added to the new System Manager. However I understand the new SM won't be out till next year! Nevertheless I have voted!

Smoothwall Network Guardian Negatives?
Burt replied to mb2k01's topic in Internet Related/Filtering/Firewall
I've been finding it hard to get it integrated with my Mac's and PC's together. (still not there yet but that's for another thread) When I rang support they told me to fill out a ticket on-line rather then explain on the phone...(to date that was the only negative I have for the support desk and Smoothwall in general) -
We are part of a Rural Partnership delivering Diploma's. We cannot deliver all the Diploma's on our site so have to ship our Students to other sites, who may or may not have Moodle - hence the issues. The way the Diploma's are going this may even mean that cross LA learning is looming. Therefore having a common LP would be the obvious choice but that isn't going to happen, so if LP providers make their products talk to others it would make could practice and certainly make things easier to manage - surely?? (PS:I don't want 2 LP's I just want to stick with Moodle, however the "County Recommended" LP is UniServity.)
-
Therefore meaning I don't have to go out and sign up to UniServity as they are going to make it talk to Moodle...bring it on! This could be a useful trend if all VLE providers do this especially for cross LA Diploma delivery...

REALLY... That's really useful thanks. Sounds like people need to get their facts straight before spouting off!?

Ok...what I have to ask is... We are being told by ESCC that Moodle is not BECTA approved and shouldn't be used... If it is the case that Uniservity will be using Moodle as a back end?? Where does this sit with BECTA?
