  1. We use a modified Smoothwall at all our sites and use AdvancedProxy. Similar to IPCop, we also "Block IP address"; the same day we had initiated our proxy settings, we were seeing students bypass them by typing in the IPs. Word of caution; if you manage your proxy solution by IP address in a web browser... might not want to include your account / machine when you initiate the "block IPs".
  2. I leave the upper 20-30 addresses static in my scopes for servers, managed network devices, printers, etc. I've always seen it as standard practice where I've worked. +1 for documentation
  3. I'm a fan of the Dell PowerConnects myself. 2724 would be my suggestion.
  4. Longtime lurker, finally joined. Network admin at a northern BC school district. We're a rather large Windows network (40 servers, 1500+ workstations) with a school or three of Mac thrown in the mix. Seeing as we're getting budget slashed and layoffs everywhere (including me, ha!) I thought it would be a good time to join up. FYI: I originally found this site by Googling "SuccessMaker sucks".
