I was wondering if anyone has any info on the length of time you should keep CCTV recordings in relation to GDPR? Only seem to find reference to it being a 'reasonable' amount of time.

Has anyone updated their websites Privacy Notice with GDPR info? Anyone have a template or sample of what they are putting to update this? Thanks.

Basically we have two servers....the admin one is in the main school office which is locked at night, cable locked to the wall, alarms set, and not easy access. The other is in my office, cable locked to the wall, doors locked, etc. Our backups are run by Redstor so is secure. I do need to look at the password policy now that you mentioned it as I'm aware some staff have very simple passwords. From the info you mentioned it at least gives me a good start and idea on what to look at. I think the problem here were I work is that we have not had one meeting yet about GDPR. The Head Teacher is looking at it, and mentioned sometime back about we need to have a meeting soon about this, but that has not happened yet. I'm trying to find out at least what I need to do on the IT side to make sure we are as compliant as possible from what I can do on my end. The most I have been asked for is a list of suppliers we use in relation to IT. I just don't want everything to be a last minute rush trying to get compliant or things rushed in place without thought behind it.

I'm trying to get my head around GDPR and what we need to do here in school to be compliant.....Does the server need to be encrypted? It's locked away in my office where pupils, etc. are not allowed. Staff all have encrypted USB sticks already, any laptops that have offline files enabled and that leave school are encrypted with Bitlocker. I take it PC's that would not leave school and don't have offline files enabled would not need to be encrypted? Thanks

We just tend to use edublogs as there are free and paid options, though it is web based. I just put an RSS feed to the website.

Hi Meldrew, I take it as everything is internal on the network, you would not need to purchase any outside services, just set up the program, configure it with the voip phones, and your good to go? Thanks

We currently have a portable classroom, not attached to the school, but situated about 75 meters away. It is linked into the school network, but has no telephone point. We would like to be able to have a phone in the entrance area of this class, that would link to the office. It would not be an outside line, but only used if the office had to contact that teacher, or the teacher had to contact the office. We currently do not have any VOIP phones, but I wondered if it would be possible to have a VOIP phone in the portable classroom, and say one in the office that linked to each other all on the same network. What would I need other than two VOIP phones? Software? Any thoughts or advice would be appreciated. Thanks

I've been tasked since I'm the schools IT Technician at looking at what we are going to need in regards to software and hardware to meet the new computing curriculum. So far as this is a KS1/KS2 school, I've been looking at Scratch, and Kodu, along with Bee-Bots, and Pro-bots for some of the basic programming, which seems fine, but am curious as to what everyone else is going to be using....Also in Year 6 the new curriculum seems to have the pupils creating programs, or Apps. This is where I'm really stuck trying to find what to use for the pupils to create programs with. Most PC programming programs like Microsoft Visual Basic I look at are not really child friendly for the child to be able to create there own program. We basically only have workstations running XP/7, and not Macs. We have about 7 iPads, but from my understanding, you need Macs in order to create apps for them, and a developer licence from Apple to be able to install the app on the iPad(forgive my ignorance if I'm wrong). I was wondering if Android might be more the way to go as you can build the App on the PC, and then just install it to the Android tablet? It seems this new curriculum see's tablets as the future, and our ICT Coordinator is unsure of Android (I have my own android tablet) as it may not last or be a passing fad unlike Apple.....I suppose I remember the good old days of 'BASIC' for programming, and the early days of DOS. So I'm just really wondering what everyone else is going to be using for the Year 6 pupils creating there own programs?
